Welcome to Clermont Ferrand, a pretty town located in the center of France in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It is a beautiful destination near the Puys chain of the central massif. When she lived in Paris, Cynthia could not welcome the little shiba she dreamed of so much. Once back in Clermont-Ferrand, neither one nor two, direction breeding. The handsome Neko, then 4 months old, was waiting for him with a firm paw. Little mule head at first, it's crazy love now 😀
Neko, the shiba
I really wanted a shiba. I admit that I fell in love with this breed because they are super cute. Be careful, you have to be lucid: you don't adopt a dog just because it's cute. I still waited 5 years before adopting a puppy, which gave me time to read a lot about this breed, but also about primitive dogs and new education methods. It is clear that, if by informing me I had seen that the character of the shiba did not correspond to what I liked, I would not have taken a dog of this race.
What to do with your dog in Clermont?
With Neko, we walk around town a lot because it was important for me that he be made aware of as many things as possible. He is a rather fearful dog at the base, he has made a lot of progress on this point. In fact, I would say he is brave but not valiant 😀! Now he goes everywhere in town and even if some things still scare him (for example skateboards, he cries with fear if he has to stay nearby) it's very nice to know that we can go everywhere with our little one dog.
There are many things to discover around every corner in Clermont-Ferrand with his dog. The historic heart of Montferrand should please you. It has retained its medieval plan and its half-timbered houses. With Neko, we can also go into the shops because he is very wise: he sits at the foot while we look at the items and wait. the Nacarat, Jaude or Plein Sud shopping centers are accessible to dogs
It's always good to know if you ever feel like shopping. They are tolerated in the aisles on a leash. As for the shops, you will need to ask permission before entering each of the shops that interest you. You can also go to the terrace without worries. It seems to me that the restaurants clermontois accept dogs quite well. The best is all hikes to do with a dog in Clermont Ferrand! We start slowly because Neko is only 10 months old, but every time I take him he loves it, and that's great because I also wanted a dog to accompany me on hikes.

Public transport in Clermont with a dog
We do everything on foot nevertheless dogs are accepted on the Clermont-Ferrand bus or tram if it is carried in a carrying bag .. so we can deduce that only very small dogs are welcome. The bus that goes up to Puy-de-Dôme and the Panoramique des Dômes train are accessible to dogs (except those of category 1). Your dog will have to take his ticket: 3,90€
Clermont-Ferrand is a small town where you can easily reach everything on foot, so you might as well take the opportunity to discover the city while walking with a doggie!
Clermont: a dogfriendly city?
I would say she is moderately dog friendly. There are many places, dog friendly parks…but dogs must of course be kept on a leash, so it's no fun if they want to play freely.
In Clermont-Ferrand many places are open to dogs but there is really a lack of secure places where you can let them go without the risk of them running away or leaving the park to find themselves on the road. I know there is large Montjuzet park accepting dogs in Clermont Ferrand where you can leave them free but I haven't had the time to go there yet with Neko because it's not in the city centre.
The Fraternity park, the Creux-de-l'Enfer park, the Lecoq garden, Square Amadeo and others allow dogs on a leash.
Nevertheless, there are really a lot of dogs in Clermont-Ferrand. I meet some on every walk and some recurrently who have become friends with Neko.
To go on vacation with your dog in Clermont-Ferrand I recommend having a car available. It's not very eco-friendly but it's the best way to have access to all the natural sites around Clermont Ferrand that are really worth seeing.
There is the shuttle to the Puy de Dôme which serves some pretty walks, but with the car you will be spoiled for choice. Volcanoes, lakes, waterfalls and forests await you nearby, they are also very refreshing places to escape the heat of the city if you come during the summer 🙂
