A true family campsite, this campsite is a haven of peace where your family and your dog will be welcomed with real pleasure, moreover, dogs even have a dedicated page on the campsite website: Welcoming dogs at Escale Occitane ! Nadia and Rémy bought this campsite in 2021 after COVID. They completely changed career paths and decided to embark on the camping adventure with two desires: to please and to have fun!

And if I'm talking to you today about this campsite it's because it's a super dog-friendly place. Let me introduce you to the Escale Occitane, its canine facilities and the different activities to do around it with your pet on vacation.

I already know where you will spend your next vacation 😉

When two dog lovers create the most dog-friendly campsite in Aude…

Before introducing you to the campsite's dog facilities, let me introduce you to the campsite team. Nadia and Rémy worked for 30 years at Air France and they even met there! For 30 years, they traveled around the world with their different “cabin dogs” – the expression comes from Nadia! During all these years, they adopted and lived with mini dogs (less than 7 kilos), dogs who were allowed to travel in the cabin of an airplane. No question of adopting a bigger dog and having him travel in the hold. And then in 2020, COVID turned the world upside down and disrupted the lives of Nadia and Rémy. It was time for them to change their lives! They wanted to embark on the camping adventure. They wanted to create spaces where people feel good, take the time to live and experience beautiful moments of life as a family. They bought a “small” campsite, a 3 hectare farm campsite with 16 pitches. The maximum capacity of the campsite? 50 people! It’s a real campsite on a human scale.

In the heart of the scrubland and vineyards, the campsite is located 15 km from Carcassonne, 20 km from Castelnaudary, an hour's drive from the beaches of Aude such as Gruissan, Leucate, la Franqui and an hour and a half from the ski slopes. in the Pyrenees. Located along the Canal du Midi, it is the perfect starting point for discovering the Cathar country.

In the DNA of camping, there are obviously dogs; otherwise I won't talk to you about it today! Nadia and Rémy have always lived and traveled with their doggies so it was obvious that at their campsite, the dogs would be as welcome as their owners. Nadia is full of ideas so that her vacationers of all kinds can have a dream vacation at the campsite l’Escale Occitane. I am proud that this campsite has been QUALIDOG certified for several years. His commitment to holidays for all is brilliant. We have labeled and referenced the Nadia campsite since its opening but I am sincerely happy to be able to present to you its little corner of paradise 15 km from Carcassonne in more detail in this article! What a pleasure to be able to highlight hosts who welcome Wouafer's with such passion and pleasure!

Do you know what Nadia's first action was at the campsite the first day she got the keys? She methodically, conscientiously and systematically removed EVERY “no dogs allowed” sticker from the campsite!

By the way, it's not just Nadia and Rémy who will welcome you to the campsite: Charlie and Lara will also be there during your stay at the Escale Occitane campsite. Charlie, an Australian shepherd and spaniel cross, is the campsite's mascot. A dog's love. Lara, little jack russell, rightly nicknamed “lara-Kaï” has her heads so she is not always allowed to leave the reception…

Nadia and Rémy love vacationers with dogs. These are customers who look like them! With whom they can share thousands of dog anecdotes 🙂 And besides, ¾ of their vacationers come to the campsite with their dog. It is therefore high time that I present to you in detail the campsite and its facilities Too W'ouf, friends Wouafer's!

Camping l'Escale Occitane welcomes dogs like kings

When I interviewed Nadia to write this article, she told me a very touching anecdote that I am obliged to share with you. She received a reservation request from Belgian tourists who wanted to be sure that the campsite was dog-friendly and that it was ok to accommodate their Great Dane. They had NEVER gone on vacation with their dog because no one ever accepted them because of the size of their dog. At Escale Occitane, no matter the size or number of dogs, all are welcome! This Belgian family was forced to change their car to buy one that could transport their dog. They had two weeks to find THE car. And this doggie spent his first week of vacation of his life at the Escale Occitane. A giant dog, no one ever let their dog play with them in the street or in the park... At Escale Occitane, the doggie was able to play with canine friends all week at the campsite's caniparc. His masters couldn't believe it and they had tears in their eyes more than once. Bar happiness!

Rémi and Nadia built an enclosed dog park for the dogs so they can all play together under the supervision of their masters and have a blast. In the canipark, there is a swing, several tubes and a slalom. They also rehabilitated the campsite's old henhouse to turn it into a kennel in case holidaymakers have to leave without their dog for a few hours to go shopping for example. Nadia has also identified all the pet sitters in the area to be able to provide her vacationers with information if necessary. The campsite's first pet sitters are their own children who are always happy to play with the doggie and take him for walks 😉

At the restaurant, Nadia also offers homemade ice creams for dogs. Two flavors exist: Toulouse sausage and duck fat or Greek yogurt and exotic fruits! If Musher knew that…. And what's great is that Nadia made it a children's workshop. So, regularly, she invites children on vacation to come and spend time with her in the kitchen to make dog ice cream.

The ultimate? A swimming pool for dogs with water jets! and Nadia whispered in my ear that a new aquatic project special for doggies was being considered… To be continued! My dog would be crazy about it. Musher, like a good Labrador of his species, is a water fanatic. I know in advance that she would spend her entire vacation at the swimming pool! Or in the pools of water in the river near the campsite. Nadia knows the area perfectly and often accompanies her tourists to help them discover the little hidden corners and their best swimming spots near the campsite 😉 What's so great is that the river near the campsite is full of water all summer, rather rare in this region.

When he returns from his walk, your dog can go and freshen up in the dog shower.

Dogs are allowed everywhere on the campsite; kept on a leash of course. Toutou will be able to follow you even to the restaurant of course where a good ice cream awaits him 😉 as well as a toutoubar. Your dog will unfortunately not be allowed to follow you to the swimming pool but Nadia has everything planned! You can attach it to the hooks provided against the bird aviary, just in front of the swimming pool. Toutou will be waiting for you in the shade while watching the birds!

Before introducing you to everything there is to do around the Escale Occitane campsite and sharing with you the treasures of Aude, here is some other information to remember about the campsite:

  • all campsite rentals are allowed for dogs
  • the Inuit tent is also allowed for dogs
  • the mobile homes are accessible to dogs and all have enclosed terraces
  • the dormitory chalet is also allowed for dogs

The dormitory chalet? What is that ? It is an accommodation designed for vacationers passing through for one night. It's a perfect stopover for cyclists pedaling along the Canal du Midi. Or for hikers like a youth hostel or a mountain lodge…
