An unusual stay within reach of an oar
Day 1 - From Picquigny to Long
The start of your canoe adventure is from the Picquigny nautical base. Here, the canoe rental company, Canoe-Somme, will equip you for these 2 days of canoe trips. If you have your own canoe or paddle: you have to play solo! Let's go for 15 km on the Somme with your dog !
To start the day off right, you can explore:
- the Nièvre & Somme Tourist Office in Picquigny
- le village of Picquigny : this village still has a little medieval character. Before taking the wide and large sandstone stairs which will take you to the remains of the imposing castle and the admirable collegiate church, take a detour to the Ile de la Trêve where the Treaty of Picquigny was signed on August 29, 1475. which ended the Hundred Years' War.
On the way, you can test:
- Hangest-sur-Somme : there is a small 3 km hike very nice to do in the Cavins marsh which belongs, with the neighboring château marsh, to a larger group of marshes and ponds in the Somme valley in Bourdon. To find the start of this walk, take the counter-tow path, 800m further, take the path on the left which leads to the ponds.
- From Hangest-sur-Somme: you can opt for the Somme canal or continue your navigation on the old Somme (recommended).
- le Hangest-sur-Somme lookout point : it climbs but you will have a nice view from up there.
Upon your arrival :
- le Restaurant along the water, in Long, next to the campsite is dog-friendly! Call them to reserve.
- You can sleep at Camping La Peupleraie which welcomes your dog in a teepee tent. These tents are designed for 4 people maximum and are equipped for cooking.
You can also plan your tent for a bivouac evening with your dog.
Remember to take something to eat with you if you do not choose the restaurant option. Above all, don't forget your dog's kibble and his belongings.
Day 2 - From Long to Pont-Rémy
This second day of canoeing has been organized so that you can still navigate 6,8 km. Of course, you will discover new gems of the Somme with your dog.
To start the day right :
- pass in front of the Long Castle in a canoe: its reflection in the water is magical.
On the way, you can test:
- le Les Voyeuls hiking trail of 4,5 km
At the arrival :
- Eaucourt-sur-Somme castle the remains of which can be visited freely all year round.
- picnic next to thePont-Rémy lock. Please note: there is a bakery in Pont Rémy and a pizza distributor, or otherwise a Carrefour Contact in Longpré-les-Corps-Saints (stop on day 1).
- Pont-Rémy: 10km hike Hauts de Pont-Rémy loop available or a walk but turn around

1 dog maximum/canoe
It is strongly recommended to attempt this adventure with a dog who has already been canoeing and loves it!
To reserve your accommodation, contact La Peupleraie campsite in Long (80).
The campsite is open between March and November.
To reserve your canoe and arrange the shuttle transfer, you must call the service provider: Canoe Somme
The activity is available all year round, except in bad weather.
Stay from €150 based on: €25 canoe rental per person per day and €50 per night in a teepee tent at the Peupleraie campsite. No dog supplement.
In Pont-Remy, the canoe rental company will be waiting for you with the shuttle to return to your starting point in Picquigny.
You have two options:
- either you leave with your belongings and those of your dog in a waterproof bag aboard the canoe
- either you drop off your belongings at the campsite before joining the start of your adventure (you will need to pick them up the next day, after your day of canoeing)
