Hiking Mont Aigoual

:

your dog is welcome here

It was in July 2016 that I decided to go hiking on Mont Aigoual. I searched for long hours for an escape to live with Laïka who was not yet 1 year old.

I found a little lost village in Dourbie in the Gard. At the entrance to the village, a very nice little restaurant called L'Etape de Dourbies in the Cévennes. The person who received me was very friendly and accepted the arrival of my dog but only on the terrace (Beautiful weather outside so perfect) and I was able to eat quietly with my dog on the terrace of this very charming establishment. 🙂

After a small meal, we left to join the departure of the circuits. Several paths are possible and described on a sign next to the church (small car park next door). it explains all the circuits with colors to differentiate them.

For this first hike with my Louloute, I took an easy one.

From the start we leave Dourbie to be immersed in the mountain that we climb with impression and attention. Lots of rocks and pebbles on the ground which mean that you can very quickly fall and hurt yourself so be careful enough! Question dog: Laïka knew how to manage very well. She was let loose. Of course I kept an eye on her: you can easily find cows, goats, sheep, ....

This place is known to hikers + where - experienced so if your dog tends to run towards people to say hello, it is better to plan the reminder (during my walk, I only came across a family of hikers).

In July it was particularly hot so I had planned something to avoid heat stroke (cap and sunglasses put on!)

I had also planned water to avoid dehydration for Laïka, the heat stroke happens quickly!.

A great effort to climb but at the end, the landscape is magnificent, surrounded by endless mountains.

The hike took about 5 hours. A great first!
