Salagou Lake

I went to Lac du Salagou in Clermont-l'Hérault with my dogs, Eden my bull terrier and Lyloo my Chinese crested dog (on a leash without forgetting the "poop bags"... in order to respect the place and continue our adventures!). In the heart of the Languedoc hinterland, the lake of Salagou is protected for its exceptional landscapes and its remarkable biodiversity... Wild site of 750 ha of lake and 5000 ha of nature arranged in the respect of the environment. An extraordinary palette of colors, the brick red of the "ruffes" competes with the black of the basalt, of volcanic origin and blends perfectly with the blues of the sky and the waves of the sun. This makes it a unique nature recreation ground, for lovers of fishing, sailing, swimming, mountain biking and hiking...

The many reception and leisure facilities make it a very lively center of tourism. There are many dog-friendly campsites around the lake. (Conditions: Keep our Kitties on a leash and don't forget our little "poop bags") Ex: At "Mas de Riri" it's more than a campsite, it's a state of mind, a way of life and share and IT WORKS! Animals are accepted if the masters are nice. Hikers, amateurs or experienced, will be spoiled for choice. You can choose, among the ten marked hiking trails (PR), those that will allow you to discover the lake and its surroundings, (the scrubland, the vineyards, the Salagou dam, the villages...).

Personally, I chose the complete tour of the lake with my dogs. It is a beautiful long but very pleasant course. Several variants are possible depending on the weather and the wind which can blow very hard. For this hike, it is necessary to have a good pair of shoes, I took two liters of water (1L for my Louloutes), a pair of sunglasses, a hat because it is very exposed (not very wooded), my camera (I never go out without it...also) my phone, a first aid kit (you can slip on the stones) the protective boots for Eden (the pads are fragile on the hot stones), bars rich in carbohydrates because we need energy (about 8 hours of walking it's hollow!). But what a magnificent spectacle presents itself to your eyes! And what a day of complicity with my Louloutes...
