A week of adventures in Ardèche
Ready for a crazy week in Ardèche? In this itinerary, adventures full of twists and turns await you and your children. And your dog will be able to share them ALL with you, W'ouf Course!
The Domaine Arleblanc campsite is ideally located for this itinerary in the Southern Ardèche. At the heart of the activities offered, this 4-star campsite in Rosières welcomes dogs with open arms! And it has a huge advantage that Musher would absolutely love: direct access to the river! What more could you ask for? Hiking trails accessible from the campsite? It has those too! For me, the best time to discover the Ardèche with family is spring . The weather is beautiful, the vegetation is coming back to life, the butterflies are fluttering about… And the temperatures are still pleasant! Because in summer, the heat is intense, so it's a little less enjoyable. Especially with young children and a dog.
Day 1 - Go to Montreal without leaving Ardèche
From your first day in Ardèche, head to Montreal! But I promise, no need to take the plane with your children and your dog 😉 Montreal is a pretty Ardèche village 15 minutes from the Domaine Arleblanc campsite.
The morning :
- Discover the Montreal Castle, a real medieval castle with a dungeon. Spiral staircase and vaulted rooms await you. In addition to offering free tours, workshops and activities suitable for children, it is allowed to dogs! If your dog is not afraid of steps, he will be delighted to take part in the visit.
Noon :
- Have lunch at the Bistrot du Platane in Montreal with your children and your dog!
The afternoon :
- Direction Chauzon at the Isla Cool Douce nautical base. You have the choice between a “cool” descent of the Ardèche of 2-3 hours, or a more sporty one of 3-4 hours. You will pass in front of the pretty medieval village of Balazuc as well as under pretty stone bridges. Dogs are allowed on the canoes, W'ouf Course!
Evening :
- After a sporty day, it's time for an aperitif! La Folie en tête, a bar-restaurant right next to the nautical base, will welcome you for an evening with your children and your dog.
🌸🐾 Need a relaxing day? You're absolutely right! The campsite's riverside beach is perfect for that. Children can splash around in the water for hours, and your dog will surely be delighted to do the same! Or perhaps they'll opt for a nice nap on the riverbank? In any case, the campsite's beach access is its biggest selling point.
Day 2 - Discover local Ardèche specialties with the family
For this 2nd day of your itinerary in Ardèche with your family and your dog, I suggest a gentler day. While staying around the campsite, discover the local specialties.
The morning :
- There's nothing like going to the market to understand the culture of a region! Get on your bikes with the kids, your dog in the trailer or the bike basket, and head to the heart of Rosières. Every Monday between 8am and 13pm, the Rosières market is set up on the village square. Take the opportunity to stock up on fresh, local produce while discovering the specialties of culinary artisans. Your dog can accompany you if he tolerates crowds.
Noon :
- Continue your taste discovery at the Guinguette dans l'jardin, in peace and quiet and still in Rosières.
The afternoon :
- Get together with your family and your dog during a digestive walk from 2h30 on the vineyard path. Accessible from Rosières, this pretty hike in the vineyards of the Monts d'Ardèche is suitable for young children. Very pleasant in spring, it's the opportunity for your dog to exercise! And for you, to admire the stratified sandstone cliffs and other geological curiosities of the Ardèche.
🌸🐾 Have your children spotted the yellow slides at the campsite and the other kids who seem to be having a blast? Let them enjoy the campsite's water park with its various thrilling slides and swimming pool. Meanwhile, one of you can stay in the mobile home with your dog. It's the perfect opportunity to prepare a delicious meal with the local produce you found this morning 😋
Every day, you can go to the market! Often located in shaded squares, the Ardèche markets offer the chance to discover local producers, artisans, and even artists. A tip for the Joyeuse market, located 5 km from the Arleblanc campsite: opt for a bicycle or walk; it's a lovely and easy stroll for young and old, even with your dog. It will also save you the hassle of looking for a parking space.
Monday morning: Rosières / Tuesday morning: Largentière / Wednesday morning: Joyeuse / Thursday morning: Vallon pont d'Arc / Friday morning: Ruoms / Saturday morning: Les Vans
Day 3 - Magic woods and essential oil distillery then big thrills
Here we go for a 3rd day in Ardèche, full of thrills! Your children and your dog will love the program!
The morning :
- Head to the wonderful world of the Païolive forest. This karst relief formed of mineral and plant life is an ideal place for shaded hikes.
Two possibilities for parking and therefore hiking:
- Clairières car park: Discover the Circuit de la Vierge with its fascinating rocks such as the elephant, the frog, the pig, in this labyrinth of rocks, arches and tunnels. 2,5 km or 1 hour, to the wonder of young and old.
- Estong car park: Corniche trail (2 hours). Discover the magnificent panorama of the Chassezac Gorges, its cliffs and this river ideal for swimming and canoeing.
Mmm, I can already smell the lavender and thyme, my favorite scents… Take advantage of your visit to explore the Bois de Païolive distillery with your children and dog – a must-see! Open from the start of the April school holidays, you can discover this authentic, still-functioning distillery. You'll learn everything from cultivating the plants to extracting the essential oils 😍
Noon :
- Enjoy a good barbecue with your children and your dog at Grill Côté Jardin in Grospierres.
The afternoon :
- DirectionTree Climbing park Adventure Camp, for the greatest happiness of children! You will be able to see them having fun while staying downstairs with your dog. On the program: 13 treetop adventure courses, half of which are accessible to children from 4 years old, a Tarzan jump and giant zip lines. They will have plenty to have fun with!
🌸🐾 After such an invigorating day, relax on the campsite restaurant terrace before enjoying a homemade, seasonal dish. Yum, my mouth is watering! Your dog is welcome on the terrace; they'll even have their own dog bar in the wonderful world of the Bois de Païolive.
Day 4 - Ardèche Gorges and Pont d'Arc
On this 4th day of your week in Ardèche with your family, it's time to finally discover the famous Pont d'Arc! You can admire this gigantic stone arch dug by the river by several means with your children and your dog.
The morning :
- After a short hour's drive, head to the Acqua Bateaux nautical base in Vallon-Pont-d'Arc. There, you have the choice! You can rent bikes for you and the kids. You can also rent a child bike trailer for your dog if needed. Then, the Via Ardeche, a magnificent cycle path, awaits you! You will pass in front of the Pont-Arc of course 😉 But also through tunnels dug into the cliff, typical villages or even belvederes with breathtaking views. A great way to discover the South Ardèche in spring! Because in summer, the path is unfortunately crowded, so less passable with a dog.
- Or else, you rent canoes again at Action Midi Sport to discover this part of the Gorges de l'Ardèche! The descents are super cool and fun to experience, with some rapids 🤭
- Another possibility, if you want to change your water activity: opt for a descent in paddle boarding ! The base Cap07 in Shampzon will even lend you a life jacket for your dog.
Noon :
- Sport makes you hungry! So treat yourself with the whole family in a good traditional restaurant. Either at the Grotte des Tunnels in Vallon-Pont-d'Arc, or at the Bistrot du Rocher in Shampzon.
The afternoon :
- Ready to be amazed? Dive under the Gorges de l'Ardèche and discover the Madeleine Cave in Saint-Remèze. They accept all dogs, even categorized ones! However, there are a lot of metal stairs with gaps between the steps. If your dog is afraid of heights like my Musher, it is better for him to stay with someone outside or at the campsite 😉 But don't miss this cave and its rooms full of magic.

Day 5 - Hiking, dinosaurs and goats
Let's go for a day between hiking, dinos and cows! It's another beautiful day that awaits you in Ardèche for this 5th day of the itinerary.
The morning :
- I suggest a hike starting from the campsite to discover the goat farm and the llama farm and the bubble house. Follow the green route, a 6km route or about 1h30 of walking. Along the way, you will discover magnificent panoramas of the Labeaume valley, the river and the llama farm, as well as all the farm animals, the Unal house, the bubble house, all round, in the style of a cotton candy house. You can choose the yellow variant to also discover the Tower of the Virgin of Chapias with a height of 282m, the typical village of Chapias all in limestone and its chapel and the rock of the priests, a rocky maze with particular shapes for a game of hide and seek with the family in the heart of nature. Along the way, you will see beautiful panoramas of the Gorges de La Beaume, the Cévennes and Tanargue mountains.
- Plan B for gourmands: visit theElevage du Serre, a family goat farm open to dogs! You will learn the art of cheese making from real enthusiasts. Of course, the visit ends with a good tasting of picodon, a typical Ardèche goat cheese. Remember to call a few days in advance to come when they are available 😉 Then discover the Balcony of Joyeuse, a hikes easy 6 km. As its name suggests, you will have a beautiful view from above. Your dog, your children and you will be able to enjoy the good smells of a diverse vegetation typical of the South Ardèche. A perfect hike in spring. Don't hesitate to go and discover Joyeuse and its small streets too!
Noon :
- Have lunch close to the next stop on your itinerary, at Le Comptoir de Payzac.
The afternoon :
- Travel back more than 200 million years in the footsteps of the first dinosaurs in Payzac. An exhibition of more than 500 dinosaur footprints, some of which belong to a species that is not found anywhere else! I advise you to call before going there, to benefit from a special welcome for families with children and dogs 👌
🌸🐾 Parents deserve a break too! Introduce your children to the kids ' club . Its many activities and the animals at the mini-farm are sure to delight them 😉
Day 6 - Village of character
On this 6th day in Ardèche with your children and your dog, I suggest you learn more about the cultural heritage of the region.
The morning :
- Start with the village visit Les Vans,, typical of the South Ardèche. You will quickly grasp the particularity of the Ardèche villages. All in stones, arches and curves, the architecture is fine and unique. Vines, olive trees, chestnut trees coexist there. Its shaded squares, Ollier square lined with plane trees and cafes, market square with its fountain, make this village a major tourist and commercial place all year round. Your children will not fail to imagine legends in the joyful shopping streets of this village of character.
- For once, you can also go on a canoe descent ! There Chassezac Canoe Company, labeled QUALIDOG, will offer you several descents in the Gorges du Chassezac. Your arms will be warming up!
Noon :
- A good restaurant at Olivier de Païolive in a magnificent and peaceful setting, ideal for the whole family.
The afternoon :
- We continue with the Ardèche villages of character with a visit to Labeaume, a picturesque village lulled by the lapping of the Beaume River flowing at its feet. It is surrounded by impressive limestone cliffs, dug out with caves. Its typical houses are huddled along narrow calades (paved alleys) and small vaulted passages, where it is good to stroll and take the time to live…
Get lost in this labyrinth of alleys, and climb to the top of the village! You will see, the view is breathtaking! From the campsite you can access it on foot, allow 2h30 to get there.
Plan B: a treasure hunt to discover the ancient town of Ruoms. This special game for families with children can be picked up at the Gorges de l'Ardèche Tourist Office in Ruoms. Then solve the mystery as you wander through this charming village. Let yourself be surprised by the town's medieval legend.
🌸🐾 Want to enjoy camping for the day or half-day? Discover the many sports activities available at the Arleblanc estate: tennis, mini-golf, multi-sports pitch or even a gym! There's something for everyone in the family.
Day 7 - Detour via the Gard Cévennes
It's already the last day of your week-long itinerary through the Ardèche with your children and your dog. So we're finishing off in style with some gems during a detour through the Cévennes in the Gard. Located 1h20 from the campsite, it's a bit far but worth the trip.
The morning :
- Start with a discovery that fascinated me: the Bamboo grove in Cévennes. Surrounded by huge bamboos of different varieties, you feel very small there. Dogs are welcome as long as you respect the place, which is normal! Discovering the different gardens while listening to the many birds singing is just magical with the family 🥰
Noon :
- It's time to treat your taste buds at the restaurant Flavors of the South in Anduze.
The afternoon :
- I suggest you take an unusual tour: from the Miners' House in La Grand-Combe (on the way back). Retrace the daily life of underground miners through testimonies, but also through the machines and tools on display. Your dog can accompany you on this visit!
- Then take a breath of fresh air on board the Train from Andorge to Cévennes ! Affectionately nicknamed TAC, this Wouafement Bien train is even QUALIDOG certified! It will allow you to discover the incredible Andorge viaduct, the chestnut plantations and other precious witnesses of Cévennes culture.
