the itinerary in detail: day by day
Relax in the sun, with your feet in the Mediterranean
Located just 250m from the beach, Camping Siblu Le Marisol is the starting point for this itinerary in the Pyrénées-Orientales. 20 minutes from Perpignan and very close to Spain, you're sure to have a wonderful holiday with your children and your dog.
This 5-star campsite will delight your children with its 1000m² aquatic complex and its children's club. Enough to make lots of holiday friends! And you will surely love the campsite's wellness area: ideal for unwinding on vacation!
And your dog? Please note that all areas of the campsite are accessible to dogs (restaurant, bar, reception, etc.) except the swimming pool! The ultimate: there is a beach authorized for dogs all year round, directly accessible on foot from the campsite! The happiness to enjoy the joys of the beach all together.
Bonus: the route is not specially designed for cats but know that the campsite happily accepts them.
The itinerary and activities offered throughout this week-long holiday at Camping Siblu Le Marisol are designed for families with 2 children and 1 dog. However, it will of course be perfectly suitable for other types of travelers!
Day 1 - The Little Yellow Train and Le Canigou
I suggest we begin our exploration of the destination from the mountain side. Prepare to be amazed by breathtaking panoramas.
The morning :
- To begin, enjoy a magical walk to the abbey of Saint-Martin-du-Canigou where the breathtaking view will leave you speechless. Park your car in the village of Casteil (parking next to the cemetery) and walk up to the abbey following the signs. Take the opportunity to explore the Abbey of Saint-Martin-du-Canigou dating back a thousand years in an exceptional and grandiose site, in the heart of the Pyrenees natural park. An experience of calm and serenity that will not leave you indifferent!
Please note, dogs are not allowed to enter the abbey so you will need to organize in advance.
Noon :
- Enjoy a picnic in the heart of the mountains, with the majestic peaks as a backdrop.
The afternoon :
- Departing from Villefranche-de-Conflent, set off to discover the legendary Little Yellow Train, nicknamed " the Canary », for an unforgettable experience in the Pyrénées-Orientales. Following the longest meter gauge railway in Europe, over 63 km, this emblematic train will offer you an impressive panorama of the Catalan mountains and valleys. An unmissable experience to explore the authentic beauty of the region. And 100% dog-friendly. Bonus: your children won't drag their feet... they will enjoy this train trip.
Day 2 - The organs of Ille-sur-Têt and the cellars of Byrrh
This second day should please your eyes as much as your taste buds! I suggest two outings to do as a family: a nature outing and a tasting outing.
The morning :
- Go explore the mysterious Organs of Ille sur Têt. This protected protected site, approximately 30 minutes from Perpignan, is a true mineral gem. Enjoy this breathtaking natural spectacle.
For the meal :
Treat yourself to a gourmet break in the charming streets of Thuir, where local flavors will delight your taste buds. Here is a list of restaurants to discover according to your desires:
- LA TAVERNA DEL GALET For a rustic and warm atmosphere while savoring regional dishes
- L'ESPASSOLE Hotel-restaurant: For refined traditional cuisine
- MOANA NUI: To discover world cuisine
The afternoon :
- We rest our legs and exercise our taste buds! Discover the famous Byrrh cellars, where you can explore the largest cellar in the world and admire the most imposing oak vat in the world. End your day with a tasting of some emblematic products from the estate.
Day 3 - Sigean and Gruissan - animals and sea
For this third day of your itinerary around Camping Siblu Le Marisol in Torreilles, I'm taking you into unknown territory! No need to take the plane, it's next to the campsite. Guaranteed change of scenery. It will surely be your children's best vacation day.
The morning :
- Start your day by diving into adventure at the heart of the African reserve of Sigean. Explore this unique setting and meet African wildlife for a total and enriching immersion for your children and you. Your dog is also welcome but he will not be able to access certain areas of the park. You will have to take turns.
For the lunch :
- Enjoy a moment of relaxation by opting for a picnic on site or tasting snacks available on site. This is the perfect opportunity to recharge your batteries before continuing your explorations in the region.
The afternoon :
- Discover the famous Gruissan salt pans during an excursion of approximately one hour. A unique landscape that is worth the detour but make sure you are equipped with closed shoes and a hat to protect you from the sun. Bring enough water for the whole family and your dog. It can get very hot! And remember to rinse your dog's paws well so the salt doesn't do any damage.
Day 4 - Cycling around the campsite
For this fourth day, hop on a bike and set off to explore the surroundings of Camping Le Marisol. A 100% nature day.
Morning:
- You can rent bikes from Barcarès Bike, as well as a bike trailer for your dog, to enjoy this ride with the family. I recommend the Agly greenway: it is 14km to reach Rivesaltes. Enough to ride safely with your children. Once there, take the opportunity to discover the famous Muscat de Rivesaltes, in moderation W'ouf course!
Midday :
- Outdoor picnic
- or opt for a gourmet stop at Domaine de Rombeau
Afternoon :
- What if you took advantage of the dog-friendly beach near the campsite? I offer you a lazy late afternoon, with your feet in the sand!
Evening bonus:
- On the program, a friendly dinner at the Le Jardin à Toreille restaurant, just a kilometer walk from the campsite, for a well-deserved meal.
Day 5 – Spanish Getaway
As I told you, Spain is very close! Take advantage of your vacation in Torreilles to take a trip abroad 😉
The morning :
- Depending on your wishes, you can go directly to the afternoon destination to enjoy it longer or start the day with a visit to the Valley of the Turtles, a true sanctuary home to a fascinating diversity of turtle species as well as other animals such as meerkats, donkeys and peacocks. Has your dog ever encountered turtles?
For the lunch :
- Treat yourself to an authentic lunch at Cúria Reial restaurant in Besalú.
For the afternoon :
- Stroll through the alleys of Besalú, steeped in romance and history, and discover why this town has served as the setting for many famous films and literary works.
The afternoon :
- End the day with a shopping spree in the shopping center on the Spanish side of Perthus, where you can find unique souvenirs and local products to take home.
Day 6 - The dolphins of Argelès-sur-Mer
We are now almost at the end of our route around Torreilles. For this penultimate one, I have spoiled you! On the program: meeting with dolphins or sea fishing session (not dolphins eh!).
You have the choice between two activities for this morning:
- Go to dolphin encounter during a sea excursion from 10 a.m. to 14 p.m., for a unique experience in the company of these fascinating creatures. CMT cruises also offer cruises with a stopover in Collioure. Your dog is welcome on board, of course.
- Or, if you prefer a more traditional activity, opt for a sea fishing session with your children and your faithful four-legged companion. Also offered by CMT cruises.
For the lunch :
After a morning full of emotions, treat yourself to a tasty lunch in Argelès-sur-Mer. Two options are available to you:
- Le Petit Rest Eau
- Or The House
The afternoon :
- Continue your day by exploring the treasures of Argelès-sur-Mer. Enjoy a pleasant stroll along the seafront, passing by the beach.
- Then, go to Parc de Valmy for a relaxing break in the heart of nature. You can also take part in a guided tour organized by the Tourist Office to learn more.
- Finally, set off to discover the emblematic site of the Madeloc Tower during a 3,7 kilometer walk. An easy walk to enjoy a very nice view. And maybe the sunset?
Day 7 - Canoe trip
For this last day of vacation, I'm taking you to Hérault. Let's leave for Sérignan via a canoe trip between land and sea on the Orb.
Morning:
- Embark on an aquatic adventure canoeing in Sérignan with your children and your dog. They offer several routes: loop or not. Be careful with the organization, dogs are ok on the canoes but not on the shuttles.
Midday :
- Enjoy a delicious picnic on the Portiragnes-Ouest dog beach, to enjoy a well-deserved break in an idyllic setting
Afternoon :
- Summer off-season: Explore the charming town of Béziers, with a stroll at the Parc Plateau des Poètes and a ride on the Petit Tourist Train. You have to go see the spectacular site of the 9 locks of Fonseranes
- In summer: Go for a boat trip to the Witch’s Rock of Cap Leucate with CMT cruises from Barcarès, a magical experience to end your vacation in style.
