Holidays in the Landes with your dog

Located near the ocean and in the heart of the pine forest, the Camping Siblu Les Dunes de Contis certified QUALIDOG offers air-conditioned accommodation and access to the wild Contis beach, perfect for walks with your dog. Special equipment and a Doggie kit are available at reception. The campsite offers many family activities: aquatic area with heated swimming pool and slides, mini-golf, pétanque courts, playground, multi-sport field, sports lessons, performance hall... You can enjoy an exceptional stay with the whole family and your dog. 

This travel itinerary takes you to discover the wonders of the region, from sunny beaches to charming Atlantic Ocean towns, mountain escapes and Basque gastronomic delights.  

This itinerary is designed for families with 2 children and 1 dog but is also suitable for all types of travelers. The activities offered are less than an hour's drive from Les Dunes de Contis campsite so you can fully enjoy your vacation.

Day 1 - Contis and Saint-Julien-en-Born

To get this week of vacation in the Landes off to a good start, I suggest some sporting activities to do around the campsite. Your children and your dog will love it! 

The morning : 

  • Hiking on the circuit of the Courant de Contis and the Plaine de Sable Blanc. 10,8 km to go green and get a good dose of calm and nature while discovering the Landes on the land side.
  • you can also do this ride by bike. Bike rental from Brooks Bike in Contis. Fat bike, mountain bike, VTC, electrically assisted bike: the choice is yours. Child and dog bike trailer available.

Lunch of your choice: 

  • Enjoy a meal at the campsite for a relaxing break 
  • or opt for a picnic at the Contis leisure center where I will take you canoeing straight after, with tables available on site to enjoy the outdoors.

The afternoon :

  • Canoe trip with Atlantis Loisirs : canoe trip. 8 km route to take in the views. Calm waters on the Contis current. 2h30 stroll through lush vegetation in a Natura 2000 classified site. 

Day 2 - Discovery day in Mimizan

For this second day, I'm taking you to Mimizan, where the ocean meets the forest. Nestled on the Atlantic coast of Landes, Mimizan seduces with its vast sandy beaches, wild dunes and forest trails perfect for a family day with your dog. 

The morning : 

  • Explore Mimizan in Beach bike to discover the charms of the coastal town by bike along the cycle paths. Bike rental and bike trailer for children or dogs at Velos Albret.

For the lunch : 

  • Opt for an outdoor picnic and enjoy the landscapes of Mimizan

The afternoon : 

  • Soak up local history with a visit to the Priory Museum in Mimizan. The Museum is dog-friendly, Wow racing!
  • Then continue your day with a original trip in a Hawaiian canoe to admire the sunset, accompanied by a delicious aperitif. Rental at All Water.

Day 3 - Excursion to Bayonne

Just an hour from Camping Siblu Les Dunes de Contis, I suggest you explore Bayonne. This is an unmissable excursion during your stay in the Landes! 

Morning:

  • Visit the city of Bayonne to discover its rich historical heritage, its emblematic monuments and its picturesque neighborhoods. Place des Basques, Jardin de la Poterne, Vauban ramparts, Porte d'Espagne, historic center, boulevard Lachepaillet, rue des Prébendes, Sainte-Marie cathedral... 
  • Stop at the Arènes de Bayonne

Lunch break :

  • Lunch at the Café du Théâtre, a friendly establishment in the heart of Bayonne, offering tasty local cuisine and a warm atmosphere. I also suggest you taste the famous Basque chocolate… Yum!

Afternoon by the ocean:

  • Relaxing walk on Ondres beach, north of Bayonne, with its vast expanses of fine sand and preserved natural landscapes and swimming with the family! All in the water! (Dogs tolerated north of the beach outside the surveillance zone)

Day 4 - Getaway to Soustons

For this fourth day, let's take a trip to Soustons, a dynamic town located in the heart of the Landes! 

Morning:

  • Relaxation on the beach in Vieux Boucau for the beach option: central beach allowed for dogs outside the surveillance zone. You can enjoy the golden sands and waves of the Atlantic Ocean for an invigorating morning.
  • or lake option with Soustons with the beach of the Soustons marine lake, also allowed for dogs. NB: the ocean beach in Soustons is also allowed for dogs.

Lunch break of your choice:

After lunch :

  • Introduction to golf on the Moliets driving range, a fun activity accessible to all, from 6 years old
  • Or opt for a game of mini-golf at Lac de Léon, if your children prefer!

Day 5 - Seignosse awaits you

Get ready for a day of adventure in Seignosse, a popular destination on the Basque coast for lovers of beaches, surfing and relaxation. This day promises memorable moments to share as a family with your dog.

Morning:

  • getaway to Pop Corn Maze from Soustons for a fun and unusual experience in the heart of the Landes
  • or opt for a bike ride through the landscapes of the region. You can join the Vélodyssée which runs along the entire Atlantic coast.

Snack:

  • Lunch break at Makai Beach Food, a beachside snack bar in Seignosse which offers tasty Hawaiian cuisine and exotic specialties for an exotic meal.

Afternoon :

  • Introduction to surfing for the whole family with the Cloarec Surf Institute, where you can learn the basics of this emblematic sport in a secure and friendly setting. Dog included!

Day 6 - Biscarosse day and the Dune du Pilat

For this last day of vacation with your children and your dog in the Landes, I have put together a wonderful program for you!

The morning :

  • Enjoy a stroll through the Biscarosse market. Every Friday, the market takes place in Biscarosse-Bourg from 8 a.m. to 13 p.m.
  • Little moment introduction to horse riding for children with a walk in the forest. This activity is not authorized for dogs but while your children are doing a 30-minute baptism (under 8 years old with an accompanying adult) or a one-hour walk, you can enjoy a scratching session with your doggie.

Lunch break :

  • Opt for a friendly picnic to recharge your batteries between activities.

The afternoon :

  • Enjoy a electric scooter ride along the beach or through the Great Lakes circuits, with rental options available by the half hour or hour and varied routes to explore. Rentals at Les Vélos de la Plage. Please note, this activity is accessible with your dog provided that he can follow you. Adapt your pace and your route to your pace and abilities. To follow you freely, he must have an excellent recall otherwise he is sure to be in trouble...
  • Explore the famous Dune du Pilat, the highest sand dune in Europe, with your dog!
  • Or challenge heights with a tree climbing session at Bisc'Aventures with treetop courses for all levels. Your dog will not be able to climb trees but mom or dad will be able to follow the rest of the family under the course with their dog on a leash.

Day 7 - The Landes de Gascogne forest

For this last day of this travel itinerary through the Landes, I invite you to the forest! After surfing, cycling, exploring Bayonne & Co, I offer you a calm break.

The morning :

  • Immerse yourself in the history and culture of the Landes with a 2 hour visit to the Marquèze Ecomuseum, allowing you to discover the daily life of the inhabitants of Grande Lande in the 19th century, accompanied by a ride on a little train through the site. Dogs are welcome, provided they are kept on a leash.

Lunch break : 

  • Enjoy a delicious meal at Restaurant L'Estanquet in Marquèze for an authentic culinary experience, or opt for a picnic on site to fully enjoy the natural setting.

The afternoon :

End of vacation in style: 

  • End your family vacation with your dog by sharing an aperitif on the beach at sunset at Cap de l'Homy, for a memorable end to the day in the Landes.

Le Campsite Siblu Les Dunes de Contis accepted up to 2 dogs per family, regardless of their size ! Excluding categorized dog. But be careful, this vacation itinerary has been planned for a dog. While most of the activities here will likely accommodate 2 dogs, call to be sure before you go.

Allow a supplement of €6 per dog per night.

Yes, your cat is also welcome at the campsite but be careful, the activities planned in this itinerary may not be cat-friendly.

Wow race! At Campsite Siblu Les Dunes de Contis as elsewhere, the vaccination record of your dog may be requested upon your arrival. Of course, it must be up to date on vaccination, dewormer, anti-flea and tick treatment… The campsite requires that your dog be vaccinated against kennel cough, because it is so successful that there are often many families with dogs! Also remember that your dog must be identified by a chip or a tattoo: it is strictly obligatory.
