I have prepared the perfect travel itinerary for you to spend an unforgettable vacation exploring the Catalan region while sharing special family moments with your dog.

The itinerary and activities offered throughout this week-long holiday at Siblu Le Mar Estang campsite are designed for families with 2 children and 1 to 2 dogs. However, it will of course be perfectly suitable for other types of travelers!

Day 1 - Discovery of Collioure

For this first day in the Pyrénées-Orientales with your dog and your children, I suggest you start in style with a day in Collioure. A little gem located on the sea.

Two possible choices for this day:

1- a day cruise offered by CTM cruise with a stopover in Collioure and a swimming stopover (plan for the whole day)

2- a day without a cruise to enjoy Collioure on foot

To begin :

  • discover Collioure by strolling along the embankment and the coastal path. You will pass alongside the Royal Castle. Let yourself be enchanted by the panoramic view of the Mediterranean and breathe the sea air. And go see the old port and its pretty boats! Guaranteed postcard decor. Don't forget your camera so as not to miss the unmissable photo of the Collioure Bell Tower.

Lunch

  • Treat yourself to a gourmet break at La Suite restaurant, where Mediterranean cuisine and local flavors will delight your taste buds and those of your children.

Afternoon:

  • After recharging your batteries, you can continue your exploration by strolling through the streets of the Moure district. You will surely be won over by its flowered balconies, its schist slate streets and its houses with colorful facades... The dominant color being, of course, pink!
  • Then you can enjoy the Mediterranean Sea for a swim. Please note, the beaches of Collioure are prohibited for dogs; direction Argeles-sur-Mer on the way back for a swimming break. You can opt for the Racou beach.

Day 2 - The Organs of Ille sur Têt and the Byrrh cellars

This second day of the itinerary from Camping Le Mar Estang takes you to discover the treasures that surround the magnificent city of Perpignan. Just 38 minutes from the campsite, a day full of surprises awaits you, between preserved nature and gastronomic heritage.

Your day starts with:

  • A getaway to a fascinating natural site : the Organs of Ille sur Têt. You are immersed in a surreal landscape shaped by erosion. Let yourself be amazed by these chimneys sculpted by time and the elements, offering a unique spectacle in the heart of the Pyrénées-Orientales. Dogs are of course allowed, kept on a leash.

For the lunch :

Make a gourmet stop at Thuir, where a multitude of restaurants open their doors to you. Among the tempting choices, you can opt for:

  • NUMBER 7: A friendly bar-restaurant where you can eat tasty dishes in a relaxed atmosphere.
  • LA MENSA Restaurant: For an authentic experience of traditional cuisine.

Afternoon :

  • Head to the famous Byrrh cellars to visit the largest cellar in the world and discover the largest oak vat in the world. End your day in style by tasting some of the place's flagship products for an unforgettable sensory experience.

Day 3 - Little Yellow Train and Canigou

Your third day in the Pyrénées-Orientales promises to be just as captivating as the previous ones, with a perfect combination of nature and historical heritage. Your children will love getting on board the little yellow train!

Morning:

  • Let's go for a little hike. Park in the village of Casteil and follow the marked path to reach the abbey of Saint-Martin-du-Canigou. To reach the abbey, allow between 30 minutes and 1 hour of walking over a distance of 1600 meters, with an elevation gain of around 300 meters. Follow the cement road, clearly indicated by signs, which starts a few meters from the small church of Casteil. Let yourself be guided by the beauty of the surrounding landscapes and soak up the serenity of places steeped in history.

Although dogs are not allowed entry to the abbey, you can enjoy a pleasant walk offering magnificent views of the region.

Noon :

  • Take advantage of being up there to have a picnic.

Afternoon :

  • After this invigorating ride, head to Villefranche-de-Conflent, about 15 minutes away, for a unique railway experience aboard the famous Little Yellow Train. This train, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, takes you through magnificent landscapes of the Catalan Pyrenees to Mont-Louis. The excursion lasts approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. You will be amazed. It is quite possible that, lulled by the purring of the machine, the dog and the children take a nap, that said! 😉

Day 4 - Sigean and Gruissan

For this fourth day of vacation around the Siblu le Mar Estang campsite, I guarantee you some highlights. Your children will not soon forget this day, believe me!

The morning :

  • As soon as the park opens, immerse yourself in adventure in the heart of Sigean African Safari. Set off to meet African wildlife in a unique setting, ideal for total immersion full of discoveries. Your dog can accompany you provided it is kept on a short leash. Please note that certain areas are prohibited. You will have to take turns to enter the large aviary for example.

For the meal :

  • Treat yourself to a moment of relaxation with a picnic on site or by enjoying snacks available on site. This is the perfect opportunity to recharge your batteries before continuing your explorations in the region.

Afternoon :

  • Visit the famous Salins de Gruissan during an excursion of approximately 1 hour. You will be able to immerse yourself in the heart of a unique landscape. For this excursion, be sure to equip yourself with closed shoes and a hat to protect yourself from the sun, and to hydrate yourself. Beware of heatstroke for your dog. Learn more about salt, from its manufacture to its use. Remember to rinse your dog's paws well when you come home to prevent the salt from irritating it...
