the itinerary in detail: day by day

fill up on sensations with your dog on the opal coast

Between dunes, cliffs and beaches, nature is pure and invigorating on the Opal Coast! And if you prefer a lively atmosphere, the seaside resorts on the coast are full of life: Berck-sur-Mer, le Touquet, Wissant, Calais...

The Evancy tourist residences, located along the Côte d'Opale, offer optimal comfort and a welcoming atmosphere to families with dogs. Each residence benefits from a privileged geographical location offering an exceptional view, while retaining a uniqueness specific to each destination which seduces its visitors.

And if I've chosen Evancy residences for this 3-stage itinerary, it's because they are, of course, dog-friendly. Each of the residences featured in this itinerary is QUALIDOG certified :) At Evancy, dogs also deserve a proper holiday, which is why each residence now offers a personalized welcome for your canine companion. Designed as a road trip, this itinerary includes several strategically located accommodation options to keep you close to the activities on offer. That said, you're also free to choose to stay in the same location and enjoy all the activities from a single Evancy residence, W'ouf Course.

The activities offered throughout this route along the Opal Coast are accessible to families with 2 children and 1 dog. However, it will of course be perfect for other types of travelers!

Day 1 - Exploration of the Bay of Somme

This itinerary begins at the southern end of the Opal Coast. To enjoy the activities of the first three days of this itinerary, you can choose to stay in one of these two Evancy residences: Les Trésors d'Opale in Camiers or Le Domaine Sauvage in Equihen-Plage.

The week starts strong with the discovery of the Bay of Somme, the ideal destination to start this week of vacation in style! About an hour from the three Evancy residences, discover one of the most beautiful bays in the world.

The morning :

  • Embark for a boat trip to explore the Bay of Somme, classified as a Grand Site de France. An original way to discover the bay. Dogs are allowed on boats on a leash. Your children will love starting their vacation week by playing the sailors.
  • Discover the town of Saint-Valéry-sur-Somme, in particular the picturesque Courtgain district, ideal for a walk with your dog. This charming maritime district, crossed by two parallel streets, leads to the Calvary of the sailors offering a breathtaking view of the Bay of Somme. The houses dating from the end of the 18th century, richly decorated with flowers and colours, perpetuate the local tradition.

Noon :

  • For your lunch in Saint-Valéry you can opt for the restaurant La Terrasse, with a charming view of the Bay of Somme
  • or the Logis Hotel Le Normandy for regional cuisine.

The afternoon :

  • Opt for a carriage ride in the Bay of Somme as a family with your dog. Discover the Marquenterre nature reserve in a different way. Children can never resist a carriage ride!
  • or go on a treasure hunt at Lac de Belle Dune with Vincent de Bay of Somme exploration; a dog-friendly activity obviously! Your children will love it. Will they find the treasure?

Day 2 - Berck-sur-Mer and Baie d’Authie

For this second day of the special Opal Coast itinerary with a dog, I will take you to Berck-sur-Mer, a charming coastal town in the Hauts-de-France region. Renowned for its vast sandy beaches and spectacular dunes, no need to change your Evancy residence to enjoy them.

The morning :

  • Take part in a guided walk in Authie Bay to observe its most famous fauna: the seals. Your children will love watching them. They are so cute !!!

For lunch you can choose:

  • Either for the Brasserie Le Carnot
  • or for the restaurant La Verrière located in the Berck-sur-Mer Casino

The afternoon :

  • Enjoy a ride on a little tourist train to discover the emblematic places of the town of Berck-sur-Mer. Children love it and doggies are welcome on board.
  • End the day in style with a snack on the Berck-sur-Mer beach, allowed for dogs all year round.
Bonus: the Berck-sur-Mer tourist office is waiting for you with your dog and has a little surprise in store for you. They have specially thought of your little companion and their holidays.

Day 3 - Between beach, castle and amusement park

For this third day of the itinerary on the Opal Coast, I have a day of beach walks, heritage and thrills in store for you! Your kids will love it and your dog will ask for more too. And no need to change Evancy residence to benefit from it.

The morning :

  • Savor the tranquility of Hardelot beach, one of the most beautiful wild and natural sites in France. This northern beach, with its vast expanse of white sand, will offer you almost endless freedom to relax and play with your children and your dog. Dogs allowed outside supervised areas – surveillance from 11 a.m. to 18 p.m.
  • Continue your morning by discovering Montreuil-sur-Mer and its ramparts. An exploration not to be missed! It is a pretty medieval town that is worth the detour.

Noon :

  • Restore your strength after this morning at the Sémaphore restaurant offering refined cuisine using fresh, seasonal ingredients in Verton.
  • or at the Bakkie restaurant in Verton.

The afternoon :

  • Have fun at Pop Corn Maze In Verton. Be careful not to lose your children ;) Your dog will enjoy the walk! A lovely afternoon ahead.
  • or get your fill of thrills at the Bagatelle amusement park. Your dog will not be able to enjoy the different attractions but he can accompany you in the park.

Day 4 - History and nature: the perfect combo!

For the next leg of this itinerary, I suggest staying at the Evancy residence in Oye-Plage , located just a few meters from the entrance to the Platier d'Oye nature reserve. Enjoy a personalized welcome for your dog so they too can have a wonderfully pampered memory of their stay on the Opal Coast. Upon arrival, the Evancy residence reception team will provide you with a welcome kit for your furry friend, including items such as a travel bowl and a treat.

The morning :

  • Explore the Museum 39-45 for a dive into the history of the region during the Second World War.
  • Then, discover the Fort d’Ambleteuse, a coastal fortress steeped in history.
  • If you still have energy, opt for a walk on the Fartz trail to enjoy the surrounding nature. 5km of walks await you! But be careful not to exhaust your dog and your children because the afternoon promises to be busy!

Noon :

  • Enjoy a picnic on Wissant beach, to enjoy a moment of relaxation in the heart of nature with your family and your dog. Dogs are allowed all year round on the ends of the dike, outside the swimming and lifeguard areas.

The afternoon :

  • Go for a stroll on the Cap Blanc Nez, a 6 km family course offering spectacular views of the coast. This easy hike is perfect for discovering the breathtaking landscapes of the region. Do not miss it !

Day 5 - A day in Calais

Located just 20 minutes from the Evancy residence in Oye-Plage , Calais is a vibrant port city steeped in history. Known for its rich cultural heritage, maritime landscapes, and strategic importance as a gateway to England, Calais is the perfect destination for a family holiday with your dog.

Morning:

  • Start your day with a stroll through the lively streets of Calais, steeped in history and charm. You can admire iconic monuments such as the Dragon, an impressive sculpture that stands out in the cityscape, the statue of the Burghers of Calais, the Belfry, with its imposing architecture, offers breathtaking views of the city and the surrounding region.

Please note, however, that for security reasons, dogs are not allowed access to the dragon and the belfry. You will have to visit each person in turn to look after the dog.

Midday :

  • Opt for La Compagnie Bistrot. This restaurant offers you a warm atmosphere and tasty dishes
  • or choose the intimacy and authentic cuisine of Le Milano restaurant

Afternoon :

  • After enjoying your meal, head to Merck Beach for a refreshing getaway. Dive into the clear waters of the Opal Coast
  • End this day in style by heading to Parc Galamé, where you can enjoy a variety of fun activities and entertainment for all ages. Whether exploring the gardens, playing sports or enjoying the attractions, the park offers an atmosphere of relaxation and fun for the whole family. On the program: rosalie ride, pony ride, mini golf…

Day 6 - Around Dunkirk

Tonight, you'll be sleeping in Bray-Dunes. Four Evancy residences await you and your dog: L' Étoile des Dunes , L'Étoile de mer , or La Villa Les Margats. The choice is yours.

Welcome to day six of your adventure along the Opal Coast. The holidays aren't over yet! There's still so much to see :) Let's head to Dunkirk. Your dog and kids will love it.

The morning :

  • Explore the town of Grand Fort Philippe near Dunkirk. located at the mouth of the Aa, this preserved space has a little Brittany feel! It is also the gateway to the Platier d'Oye nature reserve. Besides, you might be able to see seals there! 2km of paths await you in the foreshore park with educational panels.
  • Then, direction Gravelines, the most beautiful detour in France. You can explore the city walls and discover its important military and civil heritage still preserved. Then take a break on the very large Gravelines beach; dogs on a leash are allowed on the sea wall. Here all beaches allowed for dogs in Dunkirk and surroundings.

Noon :

  • Enjoy lunch in Dunkirk, at the Le Malouin restaurant, while admiring the Giant Octopus on the beach!

The afternoon :

  • Take a walk and relax on Leffrinckoucke beach, where you can also discover a mirror blockhouse. An anonymous artist covered it with thousands of small mirrors.
  • Then opt for a bike ride on the Vélomaritime along the coast or one of the 3 bike tours offered by the Dunkirk tourist office. You can rent bikes in Dunkirk (or Malo les Bains) from Location Vélo Dunkerque, right next to the Le Malouin restaurant. Don't forget to bring a sheet or towel so that your dog doesn't get the bottom of the trailer dirty.

Day 7 - Getaway to Belgium

For this last day of the family itinerary with a dog on the Opal Coast, head towards our cousins the Belgians to discover a very old tradition dating back to 1563 and the beautiful Bruges!

The morning :

  • Discover tradition of shrimp fishing on horseback in Oostduinkerke by visiting the National Fisheries Museum (Navigomuseum) and attending demonstrations. This fishing practice on horseback is even listed as a UNESCO intangible heritage. To have ! Your children will talk to you about it for a long time, that's for sure. Pay attention to the times if you go between June and September because dogs are prohibited on the beach between 10:30 a.m. and 18:30 p.m., otherwise allowed on a leash the rest of the year.

For free lunch, you can choose between:

  • Treat yourself to a mold and fries in Bruges, at the Caramel Place restaurant in Bruges
  • or at the restaurant 't Nieuw Walnutje in Burges

The afternoon :

  • Discover the medieval city of Bruges during a walking tour. Explore the city's historic treasures, such as the Beguinage, a serene enclave once inhabited by devoted beguines, the impressive Belfry which offers stunning views of the city (no dogs or small children), and the majestic Basilica of the Holy Blood – free entry but prohibited for dogs; You will have to take turns to discover it each in turn.
  • Then, I suggest a boat trip on the canals of Bruges! It's lovely. There are several companies and they accept calm dogs on board. Open from mid-March to mid-November in general.
  • You can also walk around Minnewater Park, magnificent! And dogs allowed.
  • Too bad dogs aren't allowed at the French Fries and Chocolate Museum... I visited them when I didn't have Musher: yum!

Before coming in :

  • Before leaving the region, I invite you to take a detour through Diksmuide to discover a poignant piece of Belgian history: the “death gut”. This tragic vestige of the Belgian trenches of the First World War.

Please note that this tour is inaccessible to dogs, but it offers a valuable perspective on the history of the area.
