The Castle of Riddles – Usson Castle: your dog is welcome here
There are 3 of them, but the one we did is located in Pons in Charente-Maritime (17).
The site is open from April to November. Dogs are welcome provided they are kept on a leash.
With my family and Iliade (our Australian Shepherd), we spent an afternoon in Pons at the Château des Énigmes (Castle of Riddles). It's a game trail lasting about 3 hours where, at the entrance, you're given a questionnaire that will allow you to solve a riddle through a story told throughout the trail with various scenes.
So here we are, embarking on the story of the pirate Jack Rackham. We had to pull up a basket hidden in the water using a crank, walk past skeletons locked in cages, look through binoculars, cross a small farm (chickens, goats)... We learned some pirate expressions. We had to cross a group of crocodiles (fake ones, I assure you), we went into cellars, we visited rooms in the castle, and we also had to solve a riddle.
In short, a real adventure and discoveries to solve the final puzzle thanks to the answers found. We had a lot of fun and Iliade enjoyed it too!
To make it more pleasant for your dog, use a long leash.
Bring a pen with you (they also lend you some on site).
You can bring your own picnic; tables are available. Please note that the site also offers a snack bar during the summer.
