Museum, castle, cellars, garden, park, steam train... between idleness on the beach, walks and barbecues, take the time to discover the cultural heritage. of your vacation destination.

Visiting a museum with your dog, visiting a castle with your dog, visiting a cave with your dog…: is it possible? In this article, I share some good tips to make your dog's visit go well.

Few sites welcome our dogs during the visits but some have understood everything and gladly accept our four-legged friends with their masters. Be careful, to check with each touristic site what is the maximum size accepted… Owners of small dogs will be able to visit more things than others because their doggies are more easily accepted on condition that they are held in their arms.

I believe one of these days I'm going to make a backpack for Musher and show up to one of these tours with my labrador on the back just for a little fun… Since it will be worn, I should be able to go home! Ahahha

For a perfect visit… WITH your dog

For the museum visit with your dog goes well, there are a few common sense rules to follow. This is also the case for visiting the castle with your dog, visiting the cave with your dog… in short, for each visit to a tourist spot with your dog.

  • whether free or guided, your dog must be calm and well-behaved so as not to steal the show from the guide… the other people following the visit should barely notice your companion's presence. It should be as discreet as possible.

  • remember to make your dog relieve himself before the visit to avoid very embarrassing situations for you... Take a small bag to pick up if your dog can't hold himself back.

  • your dog must do the visit on a short leash. During the visit, you are presented with collections of objects; no question of him going to sniff them up close or even making traces of truffles on the glass behind which these objects are displayed.

In summary, if your dog is not calm and does not know how to walk properly on a leash, it will be necessary to make some serious revisions on the side dog training before embarking on a visit.

Musher is rather calm but before visits of this kind, I always take a good walk to prevent her from arriving too full of energy in a place where I expect her to be very discreet. It's a good trick. In a museum, a castle, a cave... there are bound to be many visitors, so be careful of your dog. He won't have to say hello to everyone and especially not to his other furry friends. Maybe there will be other dogs present during your visit, this is not the place for dog encounters. Be vigilant especially if your dog is the expressive and very talkative type. It must not disturb the visit of other visitors.

Let's go for the visit!

Thanks to some of you who have shared their good vacation plans with us, there are already many dog-friendly places to visit referenced online.

Here are some ideas for your vacation:

Parks and gardens to visit with a dog:

  • la bamboo grove (34): superb park with dozens of different species of bamboo from all over the world. It's a place that I really like. It invites you to travel in the shade of bamboo!

  • Floral and tropical park of the Court d'Aron (85): Hades, Akita Inu visited this park with his masters and enjoyed himself. He therefore recommends it to all his friends.

Castles and abbeys to visit with a dog:

  • Fort La Latte (35): a magical place that I really like too. The fort can be visited but allow time to walk along the coastal path which joins Cap Fréhel not far away. I very often went there when I was still living in Brittany for magical walks and gourmet dives!

  • Commarque Castle (24): pretty Dordogne castle where dogs are accepted inside and outside that Vanessa and Gaïa (Australian shepherd) discovered together.

Animal parks to visit with a dog:

  • Park A Capulatta (20): it is the city of Corsican turtles. Benji loved her visit, it was the first time she had seen turtles… Thank you Camille, her mistress, for giving us this great tip.

  • The Rock of the Eagles (46): dogs are accepted in the park and even at the various falconry shows offered by the park. However, your dog must know how to remain extremely calm during the performances, even if an eagle flies 2m above him. Will he be able to?

Gourmet visit to do with a dog:

  • Noilly Prat cellars (34): Do you know this appetizer? Push open the doors of Maison Prat on the port of Marseillan Plage and discover its manufacturing secrets. 40min of discovery visit are offered to you with a small tasting at the end! With Musher, we enjoyed ourselves..

  • Mount Ramus Mill (34): again this is a visit that ends with a delicious tasting of olive oils produced by the mill with the olive trees that you will have seen at the start of the visit. We followed him with Musher and left with a full basket… the gourmets!

I offered you only two choices in each category so I invite you to discover the part Activities to do with your dog of the site to find many other good plans.
