Hello Wouafer's! Today, I invite you to follow Cécile and her dog Muna who are going to give us a little tour of Corsica and tell us about all their favorite places, from Ajaccio to Porto via Mont Gozzi and Monte Aragnascu!
Muna is a crossbreed griffon, fawn of Brittany, fond of beautiful landscapes and dog trotter since her adoption in 2017. She participates in family trips and has thus been able to visit Spain, Austria and Italy, taking the boat, the train and the car.
But above all, Muna lives in Corsica. In his native region, nicknamed "the island of beauty", there is plenty to do during your island stay... Corsica is a region rich in natural and cultural heritage!

Visit Ajaccio with your dog
Let's start with Ajaccio and its region. I will only mention places where you can enjoy with your dog.
If you're visiting Ajaccio, a walk to La Parata with its views of the Sanguinaires Islands is a must. Sanguinari is a designated "Grand Site" and boasts facilities that allow visitors to explore the peninsula and its Genoese tower while enjoying the coastal scrubland. Located at the entrance to the Gulf of Ajaccio, it offers exceptional panoramic views and ever-changing atmospheres, whatever the season. The sunset in this beautiful spot is truly worth the trip!
In the city, the Citadel of Ajaccio can be visited with your dog, in its lower section. It was built to protect the city from maritime attacks. Having served various purposes over the years, it is now owned by the city, which aims to enhance it through renovations while allowing public access during its transformation. The project information center, at the entrance to the citadel, provides an overview of the different upcoming projects and offers a glimpse into the history of this iconic site. Several local craft shops are also present, as well as a small café (ghinghetta) for a relaxing break.
You can also stroll in the heart of the Genoese city, especially in this summer of 2023, where a pedestrianization experiment will take place. You will be able to pass and discover the birthplace of Napoleon.
A short detour to the Casone outdoor theater will allow you to discover another emblematic place, appreciated by the Ajacciens, offering a view of the city. The city has rehabilitated this place in connection with the life of Napoleon.

Around Ajaccio, for lovers of walking, strolls or hikes, here are several suggestions, frequented by the islanders. Corsica is full of beautiful natural sites to discover while hiking with your dog!
The ridge trail , with several possible starting points, leads to La Parata. This trail offers majestic panoramic views of the town, the gulf, and the Sanguinaires Islands, as it winds through the maquis shrubland.
The hike up Mount Gozzi is also a must. At 716 meters, the mountain dominates the landscape, offering panoramic views of the Gravona Valley, the Gulf of Ajaccio, and the Gulf of Lava. It's also a popular spot for paragliders. The round trip takes about 3 hours, with an elevation gain of 400 meters. As the ascent is unshaded, it's best avoided during periods of intense heat. Lace up your hiking boots and head out for a hike in Corsica with your dog. You're in for a treat!

Monte Aragnascu , for its part, rises to 888 meters. Its ascent, taking approximately 3 hours round trip, will reward you with one of the most beautiful panoramic views in the Ajaccio region, overlooking both the Gulf of Ajaccio and the Prunelli and Gravona valleys. An iconic cross awaits you at the summit.
There are also several marked heritage trails of varying difficulty levels, allowing visitors to discover local history while exploring villages and the inland areas: the Cuttoli Corticchiato mill trail, the Peri trail, the Valle Di Mezzana trail exploring charcoal kilns, the Monacia d'Aullène trail …
The Vizzavona forest is also a pleasant place to discover, especially in summer, to take advantage of milder temperatures. Several hiking trails exist, I will mention one of our favorite places: the English waterfall, a succession of small waterfalls and water holes. In the region, an easy 20-minute walk will allow you to admire the Bridal Veil waterfall in Bocognano, to be done outside of summer when the trickle of water will not reflect the beauty of this waterfall.

Attacking the Genoese Towers of southern Corsica with his dog!
The Genoese towers, which crown the coast, are also destinations conducive to beautiful walks or hikes. Dating from the time when Corsica was part of the Republic of Genoa, they were built to monitor the horizons and possible invasions. The guardians of the towers, the torregiani, lit large fires or sounded a conch shell to prevent the next towers. The inhabitants, warned, could thus take refuge.
Some towers are paolines (Tower of Nonza), others pisan.
Most of the towers are not open to the public but offer pleasant walks and access to beautiful viewpoints. I'll mention a few easy walks: the Parata tower , the Isolella tower, the Capitello tower, the Porto tower (which is open to visitors)... Since the stairs are quite steep, we alternated our visits to avoid a scare at Muna, taking advantage of the dog-friendly site.
Other towers offer opportunities for hiking and are well worth the effort to reach: the Omigna tower and Capo Rosso. An exceptional panorama awaits you there, but avoid periods of intense heat and be sure to bring plenty of water.
I'll finish with an exceptional site that you absolutely must discover with your dog during your stay in Corsica: the Calanques of Piana, Porto, and the surrounding area . This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a magical place where the colors of the rocks create a sublime landscape between the sea and the sky. There are several hiking trails within the Calanques. The village of Porto offers a stop with breathtaking views and is the starting point for a visit to the Scandola Nature Reserve.
The dog-friendly Le riviera Porto restaurant will be able to welcome you and make you taste its fresh pasta dishes by the water.
The dog-friendly sea excursion company Le Pass'Partout will allow you to enjoy the visit to the reserve in the company of your dog, whose presence must be indicated when booking.
