Valérie and Only, Nîmes at heart
I have lived in Nîmes for more than 20 years and I know the area well. Last year, our family moved for a house and especially a bigger garden, and I decided to adopt a dog. I literally fell for Only, who was in Saint Quentin la Poterie with his brother and sister. It was a little ball of hair of 2 and a half months. It arrived with us in May 2018, just before the feria! This is a beagle adorable who only uses his teeth to eat and nibble to play. He's just over a year old, and I feel like he's been a part of the house for years. At home, the office has been transformed into a studio for Only where he has his toys, his "bed", and his bowls of water and croquettes.
What to do in Nîmes with your dog?
My dog accompanies me at least once a week when jogging around Nîmes. I would like to arrive one day to do canicross with him anyway. He loves to play with his Frisbee in the garden. I'm not letting him go outside yet because his hunting instinct is, for the moment, stronger than anything! When we go for a walk in the garrigue Wood of Espeisses, at Clos Gaillard or even in the streets of Nîmes in the city center, he becomes a vacuum cleaner dog. He no longer raises his head from the walk, as the new smells preoccupy him. Only another dog passing by can awaken his senses and make him straighten his muzzle!
The favorite places of Valérie and her dog in Nîmes
If you go on holiday to Nîmes with your dog, go for a walk on a leash in the scrubland, it's always a shared pleasure! The center of Nîmes is a little less suitable because Les Halles, a real place of delicacies, and most of the shops are not accessible to dogs. What we really enjoy is going for a walk in Camargue, toward Generac ou franquevaux, along the Canal du Rhône at Sète. A little further, the sea is also a great place to walk where you meet many other dogs.

The must-see tourist sites of Nîmes
We very often go running together Gardens of the Fontaine : it's a 100% dog-friendly public garden in the center of Nîmes. Get off the Magne Tower to the bottom of the gardens is very nice, running back up is more sporty! My dog loves it Temple of Diana. It's a rather special place inside the Gardens which is home to a good number of pigeons which fly away as soon as we arrive. There are a lot of flowers and just as many aromas. I have an anecdote to tell you in these Gardens: the attack of the Swan.
When Only was little, he had never seen a duck. We were running in the Jardins de la Fontaine, when we stopped in front of the lower basin, where there are swans and ducks. Obviously attracted by the latter, as much by his curiosity as by his flair, my dog approaches a duck, and before the latter has had time to realize, a large white swan arrives, rushing at Only, trumpeting very strong ! My dog took a leap back and never ventured into the ducks again. Even today, when we go down near the water point, he remains cautious and checks that the way is clear!

We love strolling on the terrace in the city center of Nîmes. In general they admit all doggies. In some places, they will even bring you a doggie water bowl. It can quickly get very hot in Nîmes, so it's welcome. For example, the restaurant “Le Café Bizarre” accepts our companions inside!

For my part, I advise tourists to favor walks in the Garrigue, in Little CamargueInter Saint Gilles et Generac, because it remains complicated to visit monuments, exhibitions, museums with your dog! And then when you come here, it's because you love the sun, so you might as well take advantage of the natural heritage that the Gard has to offer!
