Moby, Sandra's dog

Moby and I have known each other for 3 years now. Moby is a "big dog", leggy, he weighs 30kg at 3 years old.

Moby comes from the association APAVH. He had a chaotic start to life. At first, I welcomed him into my home as a foster family but in the end, I never let him go...
Today, he is a dog like any other who enjoys life and travels with me. He has a small handicap: his rear axle is badly damaged. We therefore take adapted walks so that he does not suffer. I favor walks by the water to build muscle without pain. He is an ideal life partner: kind, playful, cuddly, particularly intelligent. Besides, he surprises me every day how many words he knows.. In short… he is PERFECT. But I am not very objective!

As for me, I am Sandra, a 27-year-old young woman, educator of young children, passionate about the world and dogs! Together we live in the'Herault, Montpellier. I recently had a fabulous vacation in Corsica and I have chosen to share it with you...

On the ferry with my dog

I chose the company Corsica Ferries for a return trip from Toulon to Île Rousse. It accepts dogs of all sizes on the entire boat: restaurants, decks, exteriors, lounges... Prohibited places are clearly indicated.
On the settlement, the company asks a muzzle which I bought but no one asked me on board. We did not have a cabin because our crossing was made during the day. However, be aware that there are cabins adapted to accommodate dogs and their owners during the longest crossings. On board, there is a place, the one and only for all the dogs on the boat, so that our doggies can do their business. It is certainly very suitable for jack, chihuahua, yorkshire, pinscher type dogs… But for a large dog… Moby type: HELP!! He couldn't even turn around in the bin. The body being too big compared to the size of the bin, happened what had to happen: everything fell to the side... Between the wall of the boat and the edge of the bin... In short, big laughter to pick up... And we are not talking about the many pees in the middle of the bridge! Fortunately the boat team is particularly tolerant and helped us to clean up! THANK YOU !

So that the time is shorter, I had planned toys for Moby and little nonsense to nibble on, water, a bowl, poop bags... I had put all that in my backpack and fortunately because it is forbidden to return to the cars during the trip. Better to plan ahead. Moby was incredibly wise and patient throughout the crossing and enjoyed the scenery through the boat's porthole!

Holidays in Corsica with my dog

Upon our arrival at theIle Rousse, we went to retrieve the car from the hold…. There too big laughter… Impossible to find her!! I warn you, the hold is a real maze.

We then headed to Calvi to find our accommodation. I made a reservation in the Campsite Paduella for a tent fully equipped and authorized for the dog. In September, the off-season price is very attractive: €287 per week for 2 adults, the dog and the car. The tent is equipped: fridge, electric hob, “real” beds, shelves, crockery… You just have to fetch water from the campsite. Doggies are accepted everywhere: he even followed me to the showers several times to rinse off after the beach. There is everything you need to then clean the shower for the next ones… The campsite is not in Calvi itself but 5 minutes by car. It is right next to a beach unfortunately forbidden to dogs and the train that connects Calvi to Île Rousse. The campsite is very quiet, and very well maintained. There is a cafe and bar at the entrance which serves breakfasts and meals.

Activities to do with your dog in Corsica

  • Visit of Calvi : We were able to visit the St Jean Batiste cathedral, all the little streets and the shops. We also tested 2 Corsican restaurants authorized for dogs: “O Fao" and "At Piazzetta».

  • Visit of Lumio  : We visited the small village of Lumio 12 minutes from Calvi.

We tested a restaurant “Land sugar loaf” not cheap but delicious with a superb view of the sea, it is the only one on this beach. The restaurant accepts dogs.

From Lumio to Occi you can enjoy a nice little hiking family (1h30). You have to park at the Chez Charles restaurant, north exit of Lumio. Nice walk to share in Corsica with your dog to admire the bay of Calvi and discover the village of Occi, it's superb!

  • BeachAregno : We discovered Aregno beach near the village of Algajola. It is allowed to dogs. Between Ile Rousse and Calvi, it is magnificent. A Corsican marvel not to be missed! To enjoy the beach in complete serenity with your dog, remember to take water and at least an umbrella. There are a few precautions to take Take your dog to the beach.

  • The village of Sant'Antonino : It is one of the most beautiful villages in France. We tested the restaurant The Bellevue “, great and very local welcome. The manager with the accent and the patois of Corsica, a super friendly welcome!

  • The small village of Pine cone : To discover during your holidays in Corsica with your dog, the sunsets are magnificent, there are many craftsmen and artists.

  • The town of Ile-Rousse: To get to Ile Rousse we took the Calvi's little train, €8 round trip. At Île Rousse, all car parks are chargeable and full to bursting. We might as well use transport, especially since our dogs are accepted. Usually muzzles are obligatory in trains but, this time, it did not serve me! Also, the controller didn't charge me for Moby's ticket, normally it's supposed to be chargeable for dogs. Tickets are to be taken inside the train and the price depends on your stop.

  • Plage Pietra Creek : It is allowed to dogs! Complicated to access however, you have to be brave, but it's super pretty, the game is worth the effort...
Warning: don't forget to take water for you and your dog!!!

  • The Fango Gorge : Stroll and picnic along the edges of the freshwater gorges. 6km east of Galeria and go to a place called "Fango". The gorges are magnificent.

  • Sea trip to the nature reserve Shingle : After a long search, I finally found a rental of a small boat without a license authorized for dogs to visit the reserve in a small committee!

“Scandola Marine”, fun guaranteed! Pay attention to the timings that you don't think to look at when enjoying the scenery and the water. Result you do like us: you arrive after the hour! Fortunately, the gentleman, very nice, did not charge us extra.

A word of advice: remember to stop in a place where you can swim. Getting back in the boat and retrieving the wet dog can be very complicated… even if it's very funny at the time… Be careful, on the boat the temperature rises quickly in full sun. I had taken a pareo which I moistened and put on Moby in order to avoid a heatstroke ! Remember to take plenty of water so that everyone can drink enough.

Musher and Sophie : “I would add that, for simple safety reasons, I strongly advise you to equip your dog with a safety jacket. Everyone will then be able to enjoy the boat trip without any problems and in complete safety. In addition, it will be much easier to hoist your dog on board if it is equipped with a dog life jacket. For some dogs with light skin and pink noses, also consider the crème solaire special dog. They can quickly get a sunburn; just like us. When you return, remember to rinse your dog well. Salt and sand irritate the skin; just like us, rinsing is mandatory. ”

And here is the stay ends… Back to Montpellier. A great trip that I plan to do again very soon! The Corsica is a really nice place to do with your dog. I never had the slightest thought about it, despite its large size… An exceptional vacation! My dog and I came back from Corsica full of memories…
