Table of contents
Hello Wouafer's! Today I invite you to meet Gwendoline and Reiko. They take us to Ardèche to make us discover all the good addresses not to be missed with his dog.
The Ardèche has many landscapes and small villages of character, each more attractive than the other, such as Vallon-Pont-d'Arc. It is a varied territory where you can go hiking, where you can visit caves, gorges, of course, make beautiful canoe descents, test the vélorail, visit castles and many other things with all your family. and his dog! The Ardèche is an ideal destination for a dog-friendly stay and trying out new activities with your dog!
I now let Gwendoline tell you about her vacation with Reiko in this beautiful department in the south of France that is Ardèche! I can already hear the cicadas and the lapping of the water under my paddle…. Ready to go on a trip with your pet?
The Ardèche: a destination for family holidays with my dog
My name is Gwendoline, I'm 23 years old and I've been sharing my life with my faithful companion Reiko for a little over a year now. In September, we decided to live a great adventure for a weekend in Ardèche. So I took my things and my car, Reiko as co-pilot and off we went for a Montpellier-Ardèche trip!
Reiko is a very wise dog in the car because he was used from his first months to traveling in the back to be safe. He is a very curious and dynamic doggie who loves to discover new places and meet new friends.
The Ardèche is full of activities to do with your dog. We weren't able to test everything in three days… but we discovered some great addresses so I'm going to share them with you here. I hope this article will make you want to travel to Ardèche with your dog. We loved our sunny WE!
Musher and Sophie: “We also travel a lot by car to be more free and to be able to stop in all the corners that we like. But it is important to know the necessary things so that the journey goes well with your dog! I advise you to read the article Traveling by car with your dog to travel safely!”
What to do with your dog in Ardèche?
We started by driving through the Gorges de l'Ardèche. The view is breathtaking. It is magic. Reiko and I made a few stops at different lookout points to enjoy it and even meet some buddies with horns! You may be lucky enough to sympathize, like us, with ibexes who often walk along the edges of the road crossing the Gorges de l'Ardèche.
But be careful not to upset or annoy them too much because a gore can happen quickly! The Gorges are pleasant but it is difficult to access small paths to descend on foot and on foot. So don't take any risks, the landscape is just as beautiful from the observation points!
Musher and Sophie: “Musher loves discovering new hiking spots! But be careful, your safety is the priority! No need to put yourself in danger on an unprepared hike because Hiking with your dog can't be improvised! You can find lots of advice in this article on suitable equipment for hiking with your dog.”
I share another activity to do with your dog if you want to discover the Ardèche: the cave of the Madeleine. It is a very dog-friendly and very welcoming address. The person who showed us around immediately put us at ease about Reiko! It's an activity that accepts dogs of all sizes as long as they are able to go down the stairs inside the cave, if you can't carry them of course!
Reiko braved this difficulty with flying colors and was very comfortable in her pads! So we were able to take full advantage of the guided tour with a passionate guide who loved to share her knowledge with us. It was very enriching and interesting, we really enjoyed ourselves! You will be able to discover a sound and light show that amazed us but I won't tell you more, I won't spoil your surprise!
The third dog-friendly activity of our stay was Lussas Animal Park. It is presented as a park but it can be related to an educational farm with a pleasant and educational concept! The staff was once again very reassuring and understanding about our doggie and he was very well received. We had a great time and Reiko was able to meet friends who were all as different as each other! In this park, you will discover many animals: llamas, pigs, camels, horses and many others!
This park offers various activities such as the possibility of going directly into the enclosures and feeding the animals with pellets. Of course, Reiko couldn't enter the enclosure for a matter of security... He remained curious from a distance and was never very far to observe and to watch me sympathize with animals other than him... It's complicated to share his human with friends! Fortunately, he is not resentful and was able to forgive me very quickly.
For our last adventure of this stay in Ardèche, Reiko and I went to see the famous and famous Pont d'Arc. It's a A must-see swimming spot in the Ardèche region, and dogs are welcome. The scenery is incredible, and the bridge formed in the rock is truly impressive. We felt tiny!
There weren't many people because we were already at the end of September. We preferred to schedule our WE a little later in the season to avoid the summer vacation crowds. What a joy to have this majestic site almost just for us. In summer, it's a bit like a canoe highway here… I was able to let go of Reiko so that he could stretch his legs well! The water was a bit cold for me, but my dog didn't hesitate for a second to swim and play with sticks! But what he liked the most was spending his holidays with us!
Musher and Sophie: “Musher loves water and it's true that doing water sports with your dog is super fun! Moreover, you can find advice and suitable equipment for Canoeing with your dog ou Paddling with your dog ! You will see you will enjoy yourself and your dog too! But if you're not very comfortable in the water yet, that's okay, there are plenty of other activities to do with your dog in the area. 🙂 “
Obviously in one weekend, it was complicated to do all the activities offered by the Ardèche! But we really wanted to do the Vélorail of the Gorges du Doux which is a dog-friendly activity that accepts all sizes of dogs and that's really great! And also, we had spotted Vogue Castle who allows his visit with his dog!

Hiking with your dog in Ardèche
Reiko and I love hiking! Walking in nature with my dog calms me down. I immediately feel calmer and more refreshed. And for Reiko it's the best! He can let off steam, run, sniff, walk, enjoy the great outdoors! In three days, I couldn't do all the activities I wanted with my dog.
That said, I had spotted a few hikes to do with my dog before leaving for the WE… So I'm sharing with you the hikes I wanted to do with my dog. What to enjoy nature and fresh air to the fullest! Here are two nice hikes to do with your dog in Ardèche: the Gravenne de Thueyts, a hike in the middle of a volcano, and that of the Devil's Bridge. And you can also go for a walk on the Via Domitius from Meyras to the spa resort of Neyrac-les-Bains to enjoy the Roman remains!
Where to sleep with your dog in Ardèche?
When we go on vacation with my dog, we usually find either places where wild camping is allowed, or campsites, or Airbnb rentals. For this stay in Ardèche, which was a bit improvised, I preferred to book an Airbnb near Vallon-Pont-d'Arc. It was made up of several small studios grouped together in a hotel with a magnificent view backed by a beautiful mountain.
There were several small hiking trails that directly joined the emblematic place of the Bridge embedded in the rock. The hotel staff was very friendly and they were delighted to welcome us with Reiko! And he was able to take advantage of the space in front of the accommodation to walk around freely.

Musher and Sophie: “As I told you, Musher loves swimming and discovering aquatic activities! And even if the Labrador is reputed to be a good swimmer and Musher masters the crawl wonderfully, I never take the risk of forgetting his life jacket!
