The Hérault Gorges with your dog
The Gorges of the Hérault received a label called Grand Site de France. These gorges are located in the region Occitania next to Saint-Guilhem-le-Desert 45min northwest of Montpellier. You will be charmed by the nature that surrounds the Gorges de l'Hérault, a change of scenery guaranteed!
Many canoe rental companies await you for a descent of the gorges. You can also take advantage of being there to visit Saint Guilhem, a small town of character that is worth a look. To facilitate access to the village, a free shuttle has been set up from a relay car park located 10 minutes away. But, for some reason that escapes me, only dogs under 5kg can use the shuttles (excluding guide dogs for the blind)!! Suffice to say that you will have to go there by car, but be careful, car spaces are rare and expensive in the village!
The shuttle car park is located at the Devil's Bridge, a great swimming spot, but beware dogs are allowed on the site, on a leash, except on the supervised beach in July and August.
FYI, in the gorges as in all the water points that you can visit in the summer, cyanobacteria can be present. Find out well before dipping a foot or a bit in it and don't ignore the signs on the banks.
