Are you on vacation with your dog in Hérault? Are you looking for activities to do with your dog near Montpellier? Thanks to the Wouafer's and the Too W'ouf Addresses shared on the site, here are the top 5 places and activities not to be missed this summer to share great moments with your family and your dog. I selected nautical activities to find a bit of freshness in the middle of summer.

Pedal boating with your dog on Lake Salagou

Do you know that it is possible to go pedalo with your dog ? Does your dog love water and can swim? Take him on board, he will enjoy enjoying this wonderful lake just as much as you do.

Before going on an adventure in the middle of the Salagou, make sure your dog is comfortable on the pedal boat. If he jumps in the water because he's scared, you're going to have to swim behind him.. so before you go, have him test the boat ashore with some basic commands like sit, down... and lots of congratulations on making him understand what you expect of him.

I advise you to equip it with a dog life jacket. Your dog will be safe if he falls or jumps into the water and it will be easy for you to get him back on board. No question of pulling your dog by his collar to hoist him on board; you risk strangling it and causing it to pass under the pedal boat.

My dog loves to ride a pedalo… my husband a little less. He always ends up pedaling while Musher and I swim behind!

The Salagou is a unique place. Bordered by red earth, this lake is one of my favorite places in the Hérault. It is a peaceful place in all seasons. One precaution, however… in summer, the red earth turns into a furnace. If the edges of the lake are very popular for swimming, the ground is quickly extremely hot. Watch out for your dog's pads, which can quickly overheat...

Swimming with your dog in the Gorges d'Héric

The Hérault is famous for its sun, its cicadas, its vines, its beaches… but also for its warmth. Are you looking for a refreshing activity to do with your dog? What to do with my dog in Hérault? Discover the basins of clear water in the Gorges d'Héric.

The gorges are accessible via a paid car park. From the car park, you can go up the gorges via a path suitable for strollers: ideal for families. Count around 5 kilometers to go up to Héric, the end point of the walk. Throughout the ride, you will have access to water. To hope to be able to put your towel in a nice place and be quiet with doggie, plan to arrive early. Please note that access to dogs is regulated on site: doggies must be kept on a leash.

If your dog loves water, he will enjoy the Gorges d'Héric. The gorges run along the foot of the Caroux, a mountain range in the Haut Languedoc Natural Park. Culminating at 1091m above sea level, it is a great place for magnificent hiking with your dog. At the very top, you will find an orientation table with a magnificent view of the Pyrenees, the Gulf of Lion, the Corbières, the Black Mountain, the Orb Valley... On a clear day, the panorama is splendid. This is one of my favorite points of view. I often hike in the Caroux with Musher. We often come across mouflons, lords of the place.

Canoeing with your dog in the Gorges de l'Hérault

Less than an hour from Montpellier, the Gorges de l'Hérault should please you. The clear and fairly good water is perfect for canoeing with your dog.

Before jumping your dog on a canoe or kayak, make sure he is a good swimmer. Also remember to equip it with a lifejacket for a canoe-kayak trip safely. In small rapids, if your dog panics and jumps into the water, his life jacket will secure it. Swimming behind the canoe, running on the banks, picnicking under the trees, fetching the stick in the water... your dog will love his day at the river. And you too ! I take the bet! To enjoy a Woafement Bien moment with your whole family, remember to take enough water; in the middle of summer, it gets hot. Also watch out for sunburn and sunstroke. This goes for you and your dog!

Paddling with your dog on Portiragnes Ouest beach

Follow me ! For this fourth refreshing idea, I take you to the beach with your dog. And if you take the opportunity to test the paddle with your dog ? Cani-paddle is a great water sport. It's about taking your dog on a stand up paddle with you. It is a rather gentle activity once the balance is found! I advise you to do a few solo trials first and once you feel more comfortable, bring doggie up. He will surely not appreciate falling in the water very much and you might scare him. It would be a shame to disgust him from the start…

In any case, the practical thing about this beach is that there is an equipment rental company on site and therefore qualified professionals with whom to start paddling. They will be able to give you advice on how to get started. Let yourself be carried away by the water, surf the mini-waves, admire the beach from afar… follow your inspiration on a cani-paddle. Musher and I love paddling together. And of course, for his safety, my dog wears a life jacket.

Rare are the beaches where dogs are allowed in the Hérault so take great care of that of Portiragnes and the others… Pick up every souvenir left by your dog and all your waste. Cigarettes, leftover sandwiches, paper, tissues, bottle of sunscreen…: STOP!! The beach is not a trash can. Think a little about others and nature..

The night hike: an ideal cani-hike to escape the heat

Have you ever tried night hiking with a dog? Summer in Montpellier, the heat is so strong that it is impossible to walk in the afternoon. Your dog will quickly suffer from these high temperatures and so will you. So why not take advantage of the cool night to explore the area? If it is very common to hike during the day, it is much less so at night. And yet the nocturnal cani-rando is an extraordinary activity. At night, we lose our bearings and all the senses are awakened. It's a pretty magical experience to try. What if you tested a hike on the Pic Saint Loup, near Montpellier? Leave in the evening with a good picnic on your back and take advantage of the night to observe the stars alongside your four-legged friend. Try it on a full moon night to enjoy the landscapes lit up at night. Chills and magic guaranteed! AND no need to fear the dahuts, huh! It's a legend…
