- The Moxy Hotel Annecy : a modern, designer hotel close to Lake Annecy, the city center, and the region's beautiful hiking trails. What more could you ask for? For your dog to be welcome in the hotel's delicious restaurant? That's true too!
The Chalets Savoya Lodges in Châtel: 3 tastefully decorated chalets in a warm, woodsy mountain style. Located in the Portes du Soleil ski area, they are an ideal starting point!
- The The White Feline Hotel, in Saint-Gervais-les-Bains: a hotel as sweet as its name, at the foot of Mont Blanc and close to Megève. Ideal for a quiet romantic getaway as it is an Adult Only hotel.
Musher and Sophie's tips: “Megève is a very dog-friendly resort! Leika and Elodie, two of our Wouafer's, were lucky enough to stay there. On the agenda? Hiking, sports, and plenty of fresh air! They even told us about their snowy adventures in Megève in the article: “ Enjoying winter holidays in Megève with your dog .” I encourage you to take a look; it will give you lots of great ideas for your own holidays…”
Did you know that the Megève resort hosts a stage of the Grande Odyssée every year? The Grande Odyssée Savoie-Mont-Blanc is an international sled dog race. Every year, 25 mushers compete with their 400 dogs before the awestruck eyes of an audience of around 80,000 people. I was lucky enough to attend the Grande Odyssée at the Revard resort in Savoie, and it's truly an incredible spectacle. These dogs and their mushers, united in their effort, push themselves to the very limits of their strength for the win… For me, this race represents the true values of sport: determination, willpower, trust, camaraderie, and pushing beyond one's limits! The Grande Odyssée is truly a moving spectacle that I highly recommend you attend. Every year, about ten resorts in the Alps host stages of the race, so all you have to do is choose yours…”
QUALIDOG accommodation in Savoie (73)
Hotel La Sivolière , in Courchevel: right in the heart of the 3 Valleys ski area, this hotel is as welcoming to humans as it is to dogs! Your dog will have its own room service, its own shop and even a pet-sitting service during your absences.
Gite Fontana Alta , in Arêches: a magnificent chalet at the foot of the Beaufortain ski slopes. Between your hikes and ski trips, your dog can also enjoy a large enclosed terrace.
The Maison Doron Hotel in Beaufort: with a team so in love with animals, you and your dog will feel right at home! A human-scale, comfortable and authentic hotel for a rejuvenating mountain stay.
Musher and Sophie's tips: “Summer or winter, before heading out on a hike with your dog in the mountains, you'll need to check that your hiking route isn't located in a protected area where dogs are prohibited. You can also find out which French mountain ranges are suitable for hiking with your dog in the article: Where to hike with your dog .”
If you choose to hike off-piste, be careful with your dog. Since the trail is by definition not groomed, he will have to make a great effort to move in the powder. If you have snowshoes or touring skis on your feet, he will move on his paws and will therefore definitely sink into the snow. Respect your partner and adapt the duration of the hike.”
QUALIDOG accommodation in Isère (38)
- Le Camping at the Meeting of the Sun, in Bourg-d'Oisans: open all year round, it is ideal for skiing in Alpe d'Huez. You can sleep warm with your dog in the campsite chalets.
The Gîtes de Calistane , in Lumbin: in the heart of the mountains between Chambéry and Grenoble, these gîtes are perfect for a winter stay with your dog.
Musher and Sophie's Tips: “Besides being a magnificent resort, Alpe d'Huez is also dog-friendly! I recently had the chance to interview Michelle and her dog Pacha, two mountain enthusiasts who love nothing more than hiking in the snow… In their story, they share their two favorite hikes in the resort, give us advice on the right equipment to enjoy winter sports with your dog, and reveal the resort's must-sees. Try a winter sport in the Alps with your dog
After showing you the accommodations in our Trop W'ouf holiday selection with your dog, let me tell you about some winter sports to try with your dog for your holidays this winter:
- The scooter, a new version of the scooter in much more fun! Your dog is hitched to the scooter and it tows you through the snow. You are connected to him through a cushioned leash, itself connected to its pulling harness. Speed, thrills and adrenaline, you're both going to have as much fun... If this sport intrigues you, discover the interview with Neige and Anaelle, two trottiski enthusiasts: “Trottiski, a winter activity to share with your dog"
- skijoring, a clever mix of skiing, traction and speed! Let your dog take you on cross-country ski trails at full speed. After learning the basic orders, and training on the flat, all you have to do is equip yourself, pulling harness, elastic lanyard, harness and to you piiiiiiiistes! Want to try this sport? Discover the interview of Anis and Eloise, you will be able to discover, as a bonus, a video of their exploits in ski joering! This way : "Go skijoring with your dog"
- The cani-snowshoe, it's a beautiful snowshoe hike that you can enjoy while being towed by your dog! It's a great activity because it's accessible to all levels and all dogs (well, needless to say, if you have a small chihuahua, avoid having him hike in 40 cms of powder, it wouldn't really be part of the fun for him)… To go snowshoeing, the necessary equipment is rather simple, snowshoes, a pulling harness, a elastic lanyard, an dog coat and booties if necessary. Convinced by the cani-racket? To know everything in detail, discover the interview with Mephisto and Manon, two fans of this sport who will help you get started in your turn: “Cani-racket: a traction sport for dogs"
