Saint-Saphorin and Yvorne, to share beautiful walks with your dog

A short stroll through the streets of St Saphorin

The two hours spent on the highway to get to St-Saphorin allowed the dogs to get back on their feet. Perched in the middle of the renowned Lavaux vineyardSt-Saphorin has everything of a village on the edge of the Mediterranean sea : its cobbled streets that wind from top to bottom, its quality wines, to welcoming mentality

Difficult to reach by car due to the low number of parking spaces, it is very well served by the train. hidden treasure, a small museum hidden under the church – which you must first enter – teaches us more about the historical past and shows us the buried foundations of the building. The village is as beautiful inside as seen from the outside, from the vines
The heavy atmosphere invites us to speed up our visit to hope to visit Yvorne before the rain. After a refreshing picnic by the lake, we drive to the village. fragmented, Yvorne is characterized by points of interest quite distant from each other. Despite our efforts, the rain caught up with us. We decide to go around it by car, which allows us to have an overview. Tired by a restless night and the race for the storm, which will in fact last the whole evening and will pour down cloudbursts, we leave the Canton of Vaud to get us to Valais, at the heart of Alpes, and stop at our stage for a well-deserved rest at the Hotel des Bains de Saillon. Closed since the fire that affected them a year earlier, the bains were not opened to us, but the hotel's unwavering quality of welcome made us happy: in addition to upgrading us to a Double room with balcony and view of the village, the hotel has provided dogs two fluffy rugs they rushed to invest. You can literally say that they crumbled over it. While the dogs slept soundly in the room, we went to dinner. However, it is worth noting that we could have taken them with us and that the hotel and restaurant staff are very welcoming. We thus enjoyed a good meal in this superb four-star hotel-restaurant, while the storm outside was unleashed.

Saillon, Evolène and Grimentz, where life is good with your dog

Short passage through Evolène

Woken up by the neighbors of the rental apartment opposite our balcony who, at seven o'clock in the morning, had already put the music on, we take the opportunity to get up. Faced with the insistent “Waouuuuh” from Mo, who demands his urgent walk, we take the dogs out before going to breakfast in the buffet room. Our day of visits Valais starts with a good climb: reach the tower that dominates the village asks to sweat a good shot while the sun is already overhanging us and evaporates the humidity of a night of rain.

We go through the vines, then the alleys, and before reaching the overhang, we come across a team of young Swiss German influencers, who have come to test an open-air bed set up by the team of Null Stern, “zero star” hotels. You would have thought they would have been rinsed off, but they were actually rather dry.

We descend by the same path and cross the botanical garden and the rest of the medieval town to reach a place of pilgrimage by the stained glass path: the vine at Farinet, smaller cadastral vine of the world with only three vines. Here again, it is necessary to climb. But the view on the plain and the village are well worth it! Not to mention the dozens of words left in tribute to Flour, these famous three vines and the spiritual atmosphere, accentuated by the Tibetan flags hung here and there. Although it requires some effort to get there, the road that leads to the vineyard at Farinet is wheelchair accessible.

Exhausted by the heat, we take the time to let the dogs cool off regularly in the fountains. The advantage of Switzerlandeuropean water tower, it is undoubtedly this one moreover: one does not miss fresh water points, if not always drinkable. Direction Evolene, the first village in French-speaking Switzerland to have received, in 2012, the title of most beautiful in French-speaking Switzerland. So a radical change of scenery, since the summitslarch forests and wooden mayens burnished by the sun offer a totally different atmosphere from the Rhone plain where is Saillon. Here, the air remains fresh, just like the water of the river which gave its name to the village, at ten degrees all year round regardless of the outside temperature. There are trouts with a sulfur taste, non-edible, in front of which Bow hard not to drool. We would not keep him on a leash that he would jump into the water to fish. To the north of the village, on a clear day, you can see the majestic White tooth, nicknamed the " Monstrous Coquette by Maupassant.

For the lunch break, we resumed the bus to go to the place Bridge of the Quetse. A well-appointed picnic spot allowed us to have lunch, but beware of the river which can experience sudden flood. We especially think of dogs that like water, like Mo and Bow. Moreover, there are many signs on site to point out this risk. If you want to spend the night there, we recommend the Hermitage Hotel in Evolènehistoric family hotel et welcoming where the masters don't pay no supplement for their dog, or during the summer Arolla campsitethe highest in Europe. THE Molignon campsite is also well known for welcoming dogs and closer to the village ofEvolene.

And if you are still hesitating to take the plunge with your loulou, here are our best tips and advice for sleep at the hotel with your dog and even to know which accommodation to choose with your dog ! "

As far as we are concerned, we will spend the night at Grimentz. A winding road takes us there, and we find ourselves on the other side of the mountain which separates Val d'Anniviers et Val d'Herens - where is Evolene. Both villages in the transverse valleys of the ValaisGrimentz turns out to be very different from its neighbour: the chalets are built on the slope and the central street is inaccessible by car, cable cars lead to ski area in winter and parking requires some research effort, unlike Evolene or a large car park is located in front of the Tourist Office.
We go directly to Crystal Hotel, where we will dine and spend the night. Our Double room has a small balcony for the happiness of the dogs. In the evening, before nightfall, cool as we like to escape the heat wave, we try a short excursion by forest before a tour of the village. Quiet, the alleys are lined with large larch wood chalets and balconies blooming with geraniums. The wheel of an old mill, activated by the river, animates wooden figures. The surroundings of the church offer a panorama of the valley. And as night falls, we calmly return to our hotel for a night high up in the Valais Alps.
