Taking your dog to the beach isn't always easy. Often, our four-legged friends aren't allowed, or strict regulations apply. Finding the right information can be tricky! That's why today I'm offering a summary of all the dog-friendly beaches in the Hérault department! Just so you know, only four beaches allow dogs year-round, and I'll tell you about them. Other beaches in the Hérault accept dogs at certain times of the year: you can find the complete list here!
The Hérault, a dog friendly destination?
Hérault is a versatile department. Montpellier and its pretty town centre, Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert and its hikes or even Sète and La Grande Motte and their beaches… There is something for everyone. As for dog friendly beaches, there are a few, but few are open to dogs all year round.
Let's start with La Grande Motte, a modern and responsible seaside resort, very close to Montpellier! The Grand Travers beach, near access point 60, allows dogs off-leash all year round. It's located west of the resort, along a cycle path.
New for 2026: the municipality of Carnon-Mauguio has also opened a new dog beach in Carnon , between access points 66 and 67, in continuity with the Grand Travers beach!
Tips from Musher and Sophie: -“Find our top 5 activities to do with your dog near Montpellier ! "
Vassal Beach is located in the city of Sète . The dog-friendly area is located at access points 73 and 74, where your dogs are allowed all year round, even off-leash! Outside of the summer season, you also have access to the rest of the beach, as long as your dogs are on a leash.
Head to the village of Roquebrun to find a beach on the banks of the Orb! Your dogs are allowed all year round, on a leash! It's a beautiful natural spot where you can enjoy various water sports.
👋 Musher's great deal
Dog food, supplies, grooming, vacations… the cost of a dog can quickly add up. So, with Musher, we created the Advantage Card : the very first card that brings together useful discounts to save you money all year round, on everyday expenses or vacations. 💸 See the 34 available discounts
To finish on a high note, here is the West beach of Portiragnes , located between two ponds, along the Grande Maïre natural site. Dogs are allowed on leashes all year round after sailing school.
Since summer 2026, Marseillan has allowed dogs on several new beaches, including Plage des Dunes ! This large, fine sandy beach lives up to its name, as it is bordered by dunes. The area designated for dogs is marked by signs between entrances #79 and #80. Its proximity to a (paid) parking lot is very convenient.
