The Pays de Fayence: Provençal villages to discover with your dog

If you're looking for a little slice of authentic, sunny southern France, you'll love the Pays de Fayence! Nestled in the Var department, the Pays de Fayence is made up of nine small villages: Fayence, Seillans, Tourrettes, Montauroux, Callian, Tanneron, Bagnols-en-Forêt, Saint-Paul-en-Forêt et Mons. Just that !

It is a dream region for lovers of walks with their dogs.

  • For example, you can stroll through the alleys of Seillans listed among the most beautiful villages in France, with its small passages and fountains.
  • Tourretteswhich is also ranked among the most beautiful villages in France, will welcome you with a calm and soothing atmosphere. You can come and see the Dolmen of the Old Glassworks, one of the oldest buildings in the Pays de Fayence, and listed as a historic monument since 1987.
  • For a journey through time, perched at an altitude of around 380 m between Tourettes and Callian, the medieval village of Puybresson is a set of ruins listed as historical monuments, not to be missed with your dog!
  • À Fayence, climb up to The Clock Tower to enjoy a panoramic view with your dog, or set off for a loop around the village via the marked trails that crisscross the hill.

The most beautiful hikes to do with your dog in the Pays de Fayence

The Pays de Fayence is a little paradise for lovers of hiking with their dogs! Here, the trails are varied, well-marked, and often shaded, making them perfect for summer walks.

  • One of the must-sees is around the Lake Saint-Cassien in Montauroux: it's an easy walk with several trails. You just have to keep your dog on a leash. Your dog can also cool off there, but check that there hasn't been a cyanobacteria alert before letting him go! (see the link to our article in the memo) Musher swam there more than once and I warn you, it didn't exactly come out all clean... When we go there, we take our picnic to spend the day there. The trees almost always provide shade. There are always quite a few dogs, so avoid it with a dog that doesn't like/is afraid of its fellow dogs.
  • Le trail of the Druidic Stone to Callian is also a pretty loop which crosses the scrubland, with pretty viewpoints and small undergrowth.
  • If you like wilder atmospheres, go to the path of the Gurbachin waterfall in Bagnols-en-ForêtIt's a slightly more sporty walk, but very pleasant, especially in late spring.
  • Always at Bagnols-en-Forêt, I advise you to discover the Blavet Gorges and the Mueron CaveThe red rocks of the region are impressive. They are the ones I cross during my travels and I always stop at this viewpoint of the Var for a refreshing break! Do you understand why I'm so keen to explore the Pays de Fayence?
  • The village of Mons also offers several high-altitude hiking trails, with views over the plain to the sea!
  • And for a peaceful stroll through the mimosas in winter, the circuit of Grand Duke in Tanneron is a real gem. Between January and March, you can smell the blooming mimosas with your nose! ⚠️ Before getting back in the car, check that you don't get any mimosa flowers on your clothes or your dog. It's a beautiful plant, but it's invasive and can disrupt ecosystems, so it's best to limit its spread.

These trails are accessible to dogs on leashes. The area is very stony so don't hesitate to apply a nourishing balm on your dog's paws before, during and after your walks. It will do him the world of good!

Remember tocarry water for both of you, especially in summer: the sun is strong in the South! For more tips against the heat, read our article for protect your dog from heatstrokeYou will find all the tips and tricks as well as the equipment you need to protect your dog from the heatwave.

To sum up, the Pays de Fayence is the perfect combo: villages full of character, peaceful landscapes, good food, and tons of walks to share with your dog! It's truly the perfect place for hikers and lovers of pretty, quiet spots. Come on, it's decided, the next time I'm there, I'm stopping for a real walk with Musher!
