Have you always dreamed of discovering Scandinavia but you are afraid to take the plunge? What to visit with my dog? Where to sleep with my dog? How do I get there with my dog? How to get around? Do you have dozens of questions?

In this section:

Charles Ariza, professional polar guide, offers THE solution! An all-inclusive stay 8 days / 7 nights to discover the south of Sweden with your dog. Charles has created Sweden's very first dog-trip: a small group guided trip of 4 to 8 participants maximum + 5 dogs maximum. It's a tailor-made trip that will allow you to share your Swedish adventure with your dog.

During this trip, the only things you will have to do is: breathe, walk, take a lot of pictures and enjoy life! Once you arrive in Sweden, in Gothenburg more precisely, Charles picks you up, you and your dog, and takes care of everything! Let me introduce you to your next vacation in Sweden with your dog.

Traveling to Sweden with your dog: practical questions for your stay

If you're like me, I'm sure at this point you already have a few questions about your dog. A dog-trip in Sweden? Is it really made for my dog? Before making you drool over the enticing program of the dog trip in sweden from Charles, I'm going to clear up a few practical points.

Yes, the stay is accessible to ALL dogs; small, giant or categorized (and in order): it is not the habit that makes the monk. All that matters is that your dog is social with other dogs and with people. And of course, we will avoid females in heat!

Yes, you can come with one dog, two dogs, three dogs… the maximum is five dogs per dog-trip, but beware: each dog must have a responsible adult. If you have two dogs, you must therefore be two adults. Each person manages a dog, this is the rule so that everything goes well.

Yes, all the activities planned by Charles during the stay are dog-friendly! Except one but it's optional 😉 And seeing as it happened with the previous groups that Charles accompanied, if you want to do it, there will always be one of the participants to keep an eye on your dog while you enjoy! For my part, it is clear that I will not miss it! It's one of my kiffs even if it's not dog-friendly. After a beautiful hike of which he has the secret, Charles offers you a relaxing stop in the sauna voted the most beautiful in Sweden in 2018. Something to recharge your batteries after the effort.

Yes, your dog must be in top physical shape and so should you. Charles planned one hike a day. The hikes are accessible to all but you must like walking and be able to do between 10 to 15 km per day without elevation. Charles offers you a dog-trip in southern Sweden between the North Sea and the immense boreal forest, the Taïga. No mountains on the horizon!

Yes, your dog must be well educated. By this I mean that he must know how to respect a few rules such as walking on a leash, staying seated on his carpet, knowing how to sleep in your room without barking if someone passes in the hallway... In Sweden, dogs must be ALL ( even if you are French and rebellious) kept on a leash in town and in nature reserves. Charles has planned hikes for you where they can all roam free, provided your dog has a good recall of course. No question of losing Médor in Sweden! But if his recall is not great, he can remain a long or short lunge. Besides, you wonder what papers you need to travel to Sweden with your dog? In the article Discover Sweden with your dog I explain everything to you! Take a look to prepare your stay.

Yes, your dog must know how to travel by car and by ferry because every day Charles will take you by van to the places he has chosen to show you around Sweden. Your dog must therefore know how to travel by car without being sick, for example. And who says van with 5 dogs says promiscuity: he must know how to travel with his congeners. That said, the van is spacious as luggage and other gear travels in the van trailer.

Yes, your dog will sleep with you. Whether you are alone with your dog, as a couple with your dog, as a family with your dog, you will all sleep together.

Yes, you must provide all your dog's belongings for this trip so that he feels good and finds his bearings because living in a group will inevitably change his bearings. I have a very simple trick to share with you. Wherever I go with Musher, I take his favorite mat. Whether it's in a meeting with partners, on vacation, with friends... I install her carpet and she knows that it's her “home”. When she needs calm and wants to be quiet, she settles there. And if anyone comes near his space, it's me who growls! lol During the stay, you will take all your meals with the group: it's a great trick so that each dog stays quietly in his place. Because one of the mandatory rules of the stay is: no dog under the table! Thus, we avoid general fights for a fallen crumb. The other rule: no dogs on the sofas and on the beds to respect the premises. Wow race.

Yes, Charles knows dogs. He was director of a kennel of more than 200 dogs in Lapland and he is also a guide for sled dog expeditions every winter. But no, he is not a dog trainer. If he will be happy to ask you a thousand questions about your four-legged friend during the stay, the stay he has planned is a tourist stay to share with his dog and not a dog training stay. But between dog lovers, you will certainly have a thousand and one fascinating exchanges on dogs. Charles doesn't have a dog because his job doesn't allow it, but creating a dog-trip was obvious to him. He enjoys sharing these trips with your hairy ones, and with you too, W'ouf race! In any case, he will be able to tell you a lot about Sweden. He is rather well versed in Swedish culture so if you launch him on the subject, you will have to find the off button. And if you want to find out more about your guide, you will find the portrait of Charles here.

I think I have answered a lot of your questions, but know that before your reservation, Charles will take great care to contact you to review and answer your additional questions! It will also be an opportunity to get to know each other before the big trip!

Besides, I share with you right away his contacts:

The course of the stay in Sweden with your dog: day by day

Charles offers you three dates for the dog-trip in Sweden in 2023:

  • a stay from September 23 to 30, 2023

  • a second from October 21 to 28, 2023

Rest assured in this season, the temperatures are cool, between 5 and 15°C. An anorak and a hat will do the trick. No need for equipment for you or your special dog because the snow will not be there.

In 2024, it will also offer a stay in the spring, from April 20 to 27, 2024. The spring decor and atmosphere are very different but the two seasons are the same!

By the way, it's here to book your dog-trip in Sweden or discover the stay in detail such as the price.

How will your stay go concretely? The only thing you need to plan is to arrive in Gothenburg on Saturday, the date of the start of the stay. Then Charles takes care of everything. You are on vacation! He picks you up, you and your dog, he transports you, he manages the meals and the stewardship and he guides you to discover Sweden and the Swedes.

The stay takes place in two parts in two different accommodations: you will make a first stage in a typical Swedish house located on the edge of a lake. It is a neighborhood house run by neighbors. It is very comfortable and very warm. No need for a sleeping bag, sheets or towels: everything is provided! The houses are very well heated: don't panic. You will sleep 3 nights in the first house and each day, Charles will take you in a van to discover a new place with your dog. The second part of the stay is by the sea. You will sleep in a superb house in a fishing village on the island of Tjörn. In Sweden, this island is called the Swedish Riviera. The island is surrounded by granite coast with translucent and calm waters. The real Swedish postcard.

Two very different atmospheres to immerse yourself in authentic Sweden!

The ferry crossings are of course dog-friendly. Your dog will be able to cross sitting between your legs on the ferry. The crossings last a few tens of minutes at most.

For fans of fat mat, all-you-can-eat buffet and disco evening: the stay will not suit you. So that you can make the most of it, it will be breakfast around 8 a.m. for an excursion departure around 9:30/10 a.m. Midday: picnic and on the way back from the day's outing: a snack. Charles insists on it. It's a friendly moment that all its holidaymakers love! And then, it's also a moment of sharing where Charles will show you the photos he took during the day. Beautiful memories that he will give you with great pleasure. And in the evening, he will cook delicious Swedish-inspired dishes with fresh ingredients. 100% homemade! Moreover, if you have a special diet, remember to tell him before your trip. He will be able to adapt his recipes! And then, depending on the mood of the participants, the evening continues with conversations or a game of cards. A simple program to share as many memories as possible!

The objective of this stay is to make the most of your trip and to come back having made a great discovery and great encounters! And besides, a small detail that I haven't shared with you yet: if you don't have a dog but you love them very much, you are also welcome on this trip!

Charles has already supervised a few dog-trips in Sweden and dozens of other trips to Finland, Lapland, Norway… on foot, by dog sled, on snowshoes, by sea kayak… and each time, it's as if he was also going on vacation! He always came across super nice people! Normal, these are Wouafer's 😉
