This summer, book a camping trip with your dog
It's almost the holidays and like every year, the same question comes up: where to go on holiday with my dog? Is it better to choose a lodge, a hotel or a campsite for the holidays with your dog? Where can I book a stay for a holiday with my dog where I am sure to be well received with my whole family, including the dog? To help you make your choice, I interviewed several members of the community, camping fans, to ask them what they like so much about this type of accommodation.
There are followers and even unconditional fans of campsites among the Wouafer's! Here are 7 proofs that camping WITH your dog: it's too wow! This is an opportunity to show skeptics that camping is dog-friendly. Whether you prefer the sea or the mountains for the holidays with your dog, you will inevitably find shoes to suit you... uh, your paw!
On campings.com, there are hundreds of campsites waiting for you with your dog throughout France, but not only… You can also find a campsite abroad that accepts dogs.

This is also mainly why Camille travels camping with her two white Swiss shepherds. Camping for her is either on the way to join a cani-cross competition far from home, or for several days during the holidays to enjoy a little calm at the edge of the water. It's practical, his whole family has adopted camping. They thus spend all their holidays with their feet in the water, once in the Gorges du Tarn, another time on the banks of the Gardon, or again in the Gorges du Verdon. A fan of canoeing and paddleboarding, Camille has a great time with her dogs at the campsite!
Camping isn't just a tent! Far from there. Mobile homes, eco-lodges, treehouses, unusual accommodation, bubbles… campsites now offer competitive rentals for holidays that are all in comfort and full of escape!
The campsite: a friendly place for holidays with your dog
The campsite is by definition an open place where you live outside: it is therefore very easy to sympathize with your tent or bungalow neighbors. Your dog has understood this well: he will quickly greet the neighbor's dog. It will give you a good reason to also cross the hedge and meet great people.
Camping is inseparable from aperitifs and barbecues with friends, family or neighbors in tents or mobile homes. The greedy doggies are the first to come. Keep a close eye on what and how much they eat.
Know that in some campsites your dog will even be welcome in the restaurant. Find out in advance.
A small reminder is necessary all the same: if camping rhymes with conviviality and meeting, that does not mean that your dog can walk there freely as he sees fit. He will have to walk on a leash and remain under your control. Not all dogs are sociable and, to avoid unpleasant surprises, everyone should keep their leash and keep their distance!
Camping with your dog: an economical type of accommodation
There is camping and camping… Between a natural area in the middle of nature, family camping type, and a 5-star campsite on the Mediterranean coast with an insane entertainment program and a water park with jacuzzi, slides, enchanted river…: there is for all budgets. Camping is the friend of "small budgets" for a night, a week or a whole summer!
It is possible to sleep for less than 10€ per night and per person in a tent. And some campsites even welcome your animals completely free of charge.
In tents, you can often book at the last minute. It's very practical when we leave on a whim or when we travel over our inspirations and encounters in roadtrip mode.
The campsites are open from May to September/October: in the off-season, rental prices are more attractive. On campings.com, for example, there are very regular promotional offers. Go check out the site to see what they're offering right now! The opportunity to make great savings for your next pet-friendly vacation.
Camping with your dog is comfortable! Yes Yes Yes !
We all have in mind the image of Épinal of the holidaymaker who wakes up with a bad back and bugs all over his down… but that was before! Camping has changed a lot and now, even in a tent, it can be a great luxury. Between rentals (lodge, mobile home, bungalow, chalet…) or simple pitch, you have the choice to book the holidays.
Most campsites accept dogs in their rentals for a supplement for the cleaning fee in particular.
In some campsites, your dog will have the right to its own cani-shower to rinse off after a swim at the beach, for example. It is a very practical arrangement to take care of our doggies.
Some also offer an enclosed space where he can have fun with his four-legged friends in complete safety, a stuffed animal park. Or a toutoubar where you can drink a few “dogtails” between dogs.
Camping for furry holidays with your dog
Have you found a campsite that accepts animals? Remember to specify that you are taking your dog with you when making your reservation. In all his panoply of professions, the campsite manager is responsible for making “the table plan” to create harmony in his campsite. It is therefore important to inform him of the presence of your dog. It will ensure that you have shade to avoid heatstroke, for example.
When you arrive, you will be asked for your dog's health record to check that all his vaccines are up to date. Slip it into your dog's suitcase. Remember to have a check-up with your veterinarian before the big departure.
When we leave with Musher, I take her things to make her feel “at home”. So, I take with me: his croquettes, his bowl, his collar with his medal, his leash and his basket!
A few rules for the greatest happiness of our dogs...
Valérie told me a little secret… Her two dogs, Half, a border collie, and Let it be, a Pyrenean shepherd, love camping because it's the only time of the year when they sleep with her. And they take full advantage of it. Under the tent, Half and Let it be, squat on Valérie's mattress. So much so that the poor thing finds herself a little tight, but these are precious moments that she loves!
Ideally, your dog should have his own sleeping space so as not to disturb his habits too much… Don't let your dog sleep under the awning of the tent or, worse, outside. It can be a stressful situation for him. It will also be easy prey for mosquitoes. And he might be tempted to go for a walk at night: it is not uncommon to come across a few rabbits on campsites. He shouldn't be tempted to follow one.
And if you have booked a mobile home with your dog or a lodge with your dog, the rule is simple and universal: no dogs on the beds or sofas!
A little reminder that goes without saying: if we want to continue traveling with our animals, it is everyone's responsibility. It is up to everyone to be “a good master”: our animal must be well brought up, stay on a leash and we must pick up all of its droppings.
If you like dogs, your neighbor may not like them as much as you do. Respect his holidays: respect the rules of the campsite.
Camping is also adventure and life in the great outdoors for your dog
In a tent or in a rental, holidays are an adventure for your dog. He is alert and listens to all the sounds of his new environment. There are hundreds of smells he doesn't know. It's an incredible playground.
Like you, he has a good time like the beautiful Gaby who never tires of long sunny naps, as her mistress Sandrine told me. It is also an opportunity for her to glean a few hugs from holidaymakers passing in front of their mobile home.
At the campsite, you are more zen and have a lot more time to devote to playing, cuddling… Our dogs love it! Camping is the perfect place to stay for holidays with your dog.
Please note, however, that it will not be possible to leave your dog alone in a tent. It involves sharing everything with your dog: visit, canoeing, tasting… or simply lazing on the towel by the water.
It's not Mafia who will tell you otherwise. This little Cavalier King-Charles enjoys her holidays to the fullest between jogging on the beach, cycling and lazing around. She shares everything with her masters to the delight of the whole family! Avoid leaving your dog alone in your mobile home as much as possible. In summer, it gets very very hot inside quickly and he didn't come with you on vacation to stay locked up!
