A few kilometers from the Périgord-Limousin regional natural park, the destination is ideal for packing your family bags with your dog.

In this section:

Today, I'm taking you to discover La Rochefoucauld, an all-tourism destination that will welcome you and your dog. To facilitate your stay in La Rochefoucauld with your pet, the tourist office has listed all the dog-friendly places in its territory for you. Let me introduce them to you and make you want to go on vacation in Périgord with all your family and your dog.

100% dog friendly holidays in La Rochefoucauld

I have prepared for you my ideal program for a few days of vacation in La Rochefoucauld with my dog. Let's go ! Here is a summary of activities to do with your dog in La Rochefoucauld and the surrounding area.

When I go on vacation somewhere, I usually prepare a list of things to do so that I don't miss any must-sees in the area. I like to know in advance what to expect, and above all, I identify all the accessible places with my dog so that we can share a maximum of activities together. You know me now, for me the holidays are: a dose of sport, a dose of culture and visit and a dose of idleness. And inevitably, as I travel with a Labrador, water activities are included, whether canoeing, hours of swimming or paddle boarding with my dog. And in the Tardoire valley, there is plenty to do!

Here are some activities to share with your pet during your stay at La Rochefoucauld:

  • the visit of the Château de la Rochefoucauld: a must in the destination but be careful only accessible to small dogs... but if you take turns visiting it, I have a plan B for you and your dog: the fitness trail in the Bois du Chateau de la Rochefoucauld. Something to take care of while part of the family visits and the other stays with the dog.

  • a bike outing on the greenway La Coulée d'Oc: it is an old railway line transformed into a cycle path running through the Bandiat valley. There are other cycle loops starting from La Rochefoucauld or Montbron, for example, but the greenway is more secure. It's perfect for traveling with your dog in a dog bike trailer.

  • hiking! Wow racing. On the Chambon station site in Eymouthiers, 30 sports circuits are available for hiking, Nordic walking, trail running or mountain biking. And they are all accessible with your dog. Be careful, all the same, to choose a sport and a level of difficulty whose itinerary corresponds to your abilities and that of your dog. If you are a fan of canitrail or caniVTT, you will certainly find what you are looking for for a few crazy sessions! Bring your canine traction sports equipment.

  • a canicross or agility session at the Mas de Mazerolles. On a natural area of 4,5 hectares, the owners of the premises have set up two courses for your doggies: a 600m agility course with multiple obstacles in an enclosed area and a 3km signposted canicross course! Something to have fun with doggie. And each novelty is tested by Robin, the owners' dog. He is also the one who will surely welcome you first when you arrive 🙂 Remember to call before you go there so that we can open the space for you. It is not freely available. A small contribution of 2€ will be requested. On site, you will also find a petanque court, a barbecue area and a course for archers. Something to enjoy with the family!

  • a visit to the stone mill. It is a unique mill in France. Using hydraulic power, the mill saws blocks of limestone weighing several tons. In summer, the site is free to visit. Your dog is welcome at the Moulin de la Pierre on the condition of accompanying you there on a leash. Below, on the other side of the road, it is the ideal location for a picnic by the river, in a green setting. To end this little getaway, you can spend some time near the Roman ford of Vilhonneur to refresh your legs; if there is still water!

  • and to finish: a bit of geocaching! In a former professional life, I was a geocacher and I still love going hunting for caches hidden in nature. 4 courses await you. A fun way to get your kids walking in search of treasure; they have fun and discover the riches of the local heritage. And your dog will love going for a walk with you! And if you like this kind of activity, La forêt de la Braconne in challenge mode will please you. These are 12 challenges to be met in the forest on a course in the forest. FYI, the Terra Aventura and Forest Challenge applications are free: this is a great and free activity that will appeal to young and old alike and your dog.

Practical Guide: Activities and accommodation accepting dogs in La Rochefoucauld

As I told you before, the tourist office of La Rochefoucauld is a tourist office. So, I invite you to visit the office team who have prepared a little surprise for your dog 😉 And they will also give you a handy guide where you will find all the information you need for your holidays with your dog in La Rochefoucauld and its surroundings with a list of dog-friendly accommodation, restaurants and activities.

As for the restaurant, here are some places to eat with your dog in La Rochefoucauld: restaurant at the Moulin du Château, the Café de la Paix, Chez Steph and the restaurant Tato Maki.

Personally, I have retained an address from this practical guide: the mill of Chazelles. The mill houses a craft brewery. Dogs are welcome at the Brasserie la Rainette. It's a good plan perfect for a little foam at the edge of the water. In addition, in summer, they organize guinguette evenings. I can already see myself there… After a good hike with my dog, here's something to relax.

I could not finish this article without telling you more about the Tardoire valley, a prehistoric center in the Charente. The Tardoire Valley is full of caves where prehistoric men lived, so how can you not take advantage of them? But beware, if Le Placard also called the cave of signs, the cave of La Chaise and that of Montgaudier are major sites of prehistory, they are not accessible with your dog. Better to know it to organize yourself…

I hope I have made you want to travel with your dog, my dear Wouafer's! Discover this pretty corner of Charente with your dog. Go to La Rochefoucauld with your dog! Don't forget to share your most beautiful photos with the #emmenetonchien!
