The City of Stones in Montpellier-le-Vieux with his dog
📍 La Roque-Sainte-Marguerite – Aveyron (12) | 🐶 QUALIDOG 1 truffle
The City of Stones is located in the Millau Grands Causses – Gorges du Tarn region, a QUALIDOG-certified destination since 2025. For several years, the Tourist Office has been developing a comprehensive strategy for welcoming travelers with dogs, in partnership with EmmèneTonChien.com: trained professionals, dog-friendly accommodations and activities, a list of recommended places, a welcome kit at the Tourist Office… In short, traveling with your dog is a real priority here! Discover the holiday guide: what to do in and around Millau with your dog.
And among all the hidden gems to discover with your dog in the area, there's the Cité de Pierres ( City of Stones ). Located on the Causse Noir plateau, near Millau, this vast 120-hectare natural geological park has been sculpted by erosion. Its rocks with astonishing shapes, its panoramic views over the Dourbie gorges, and its numerous trails make it a visit that's a perfect blend of sightseeing and hiking.
Regarding dogs: all dogs, including breeds classified as dangerous, are welcome on all trails and on the tourist train . They must be kept on a leash to protect the site's wildlife. A dog waste bag dispenser and waste bags are available at reception. Please be careful with puppies, senior dogs, or injured dogs: there are many stairs on the site.
I discovered this place last May. Honestly, it's worth the trip. The scenery is magnificent! But Musher didn't enjoy her visit as much. She has terrible vertigo, so she hates stairs, and at 12 years old, they become quite ambitious obstacles for her. So I carried her every time; my back still remembers it 🤪 but I owed her that much!
And above all, don't limit yourself to just this one visit : hiking on the Grands Causses, swimming in the Dourbie River, canoeing or paddleboarding with your dog, the Tarn Gorges… Millau is clearly a destination where you can fill several days of vacation with your dog. You can even follow our one-week itinerary around Millau and in the Tarn Gorges with your dog.
