Sleep at the hotel with your dog
Going on vacation with your dog: what a joy! Traveling with the whole family, on two or four legs, is an opportunity to share unforgettable moments. It makes good memories to think about while waiting for the next vacation….
Before getting to the memories, the first step of your vacation is to find a hotel that accepts your dog with pleasure. In this new Mag' article, I give you good advice for finding a dog-friendly hotel and taking stock of what to bring for your little companion's stay.
Find a pet-friendly hotel
Has your boss validated your next vacation? All you have to do is find an ideal destination for your whole family, including the dog.
Hot sand, sun, transparent sea... and if you leave a few days at the edge of the sea? Let me set the scene for you: a small hotel full of charm with a view of the sea from where you can hear the sound of the waves and the gulls, a few steps from restaurants where you can taste some good fresh fish or shellfish... So the atmosphere do you like? Now it remains to make sure that your dog will be welcome there. For example, you can find a selection ofhotels on lastminute.com
By the way, to prepare your holidays by the sea with doggie, I advise you to read or reread the article Take your dog to the beach. Rinsing, beach games, jellyfish, waves and currents… take stock in this article.
You are more into wide open spaces and hikes, opt for the mountains. If your dog is in good health and rather sporty, he will love these holidays in the mountains. The mountain, in summer, is a perfect destination for holidays with your dog. There are fewer people than on the coast and your pet will, as a rule, be rather well received everywhere Be mindful of the protected areas in which your dog will not be allowed even on a leash. Apart from these specific restrictions it is a gigantic playground. Canicross, canirando, canitrail… it's paradise for canine traction sports.
To prepare your hikes with your dog, remember to read or reread the article Hike with your dog, it cannot be improvised.
Why not push the boundaries during your vacation? Do like some of our Wouafer's and go explore the world with your dog. You will find dog-friendly hotels everywhere.
Caro tested Croatia with Cosmos, Aïko and Olivia the Swiss mountains, Looping and Claire explored London, Kyo and Silvia returning from Brussels, Equinoxe and Geoffroy enjoyed a few days in Sardinia… from the moment your dog has his papers in good standing and that he is well educated, you can take him almost anywhere with you. And above all, whatever country you choose, you will always find a hotel that accepts your dog.
The right hotel for my dog and me
Have you found a dog-friendly hotel for the holidays? Before talking about what you should bring for doggie, let's take stock of the reservation to avoid surprises at check-in.
At the time of your reservation, I advise you to contact the hotelier for more details on:
-
the number of dogs accepted
-
the size of the dog accepted (if it only accepts dogs under 10 kilos and you land with a German shepherd, the holiday may be compromised)
-
the possibility of leaving the dog alone or not in the hotel room. Check if necessary that the hotel tolerates that you leave your dog alone in the room if he cannot accompany you somewhere; provided of course, that your dog is wise and respectful of the place and that you are not absent for hours and hours. Some hotels categorically refuse to let the animal stay alone in a room.
-
the places accessible to your dog within the hotel: restaurant, bar…
-
the canisites or natural spaces accessible on foot from the hotel for the evening and morning pee
-
the equipment available for your dog on site: carpet, bowl….
Whether for holidays or during my business trips, I often choose the hotel option with Musher. For my part, I like to contact the hotelier before my stay to validate that Musher will really be welcome there and that it will not be a grimace when we have crossed the entrance hall. My dog is part of my family, I don't want to feel embarrassed because she's there and almost have to apologize for her presence. So I make sure with a few questions that it is not simply tolerated but that it is truly welcomed; just like me...
One last tip: if you have to leave your room and leave your pet there alone. Tell the hotel staff so that no one will come to clean your room at the risk of disturbing your doggie and taking the opportunity to take to their heels. Leave them your phone number if there is an emergency such as: your dog who thinks he is a wolf and howls to death throughout the hotel… Be reachable! A hotel is noisy, there is a lot of people passing by... it can disturb the bearings and habits of your doggie who can react differently than at home. When we both sleep at the hotel, Musher goes around in circles all night and can't sleep...
