Mephisto and Manon, two cani-snowshoe fans
I am happy to introduce you to Manon and Mephisto, her Czech wolf dog. I give them the floor to introduce themselves. Through this article, Manon introduces us to this superb breed and its specificities and gives us some advice.
Manon: “It’s your turn! ”

I have always had animals, since my earliest childhood, especially Great Danes, mastiffs with a big heart. So when, with my husband Alexandre, we bought a house with a garden in the Nîmes countryside, we very quickly had the desire to find ourselves a canine companion!
I had for some time been fascinated by the breed of czechoslovakian wolfdog : its very lupoid appearance and its atypical character prompted us to visit a breeding farm in the Var (Loups du Var), which confirmed our love at first sight! We had chosen a puppy with long hair because we like massive dogs, but finally, after a second visit, we fell in love with a little ball of (short) hair with a droopy ear who followed us everywhere inside us. making sweet eyes and that's how Mephisto entered the family! He was born on 23.12.2016 and has just celebrated his 2nd birthday.
I would like to make a small warning about this breed which is unfortunately a victim of its own success: the Czech wolfhound is a particular dog, very complicated to educate (stubborn, destructive, independent)… Professor by profession, I obviously turned towards positive education, the key to success with many dogs, especially such sensitive breeds. The beginnings were very difficult and it took us a lot of patience and time to achieve a balanced relationship and a bond that is now magical.
We share everything with him, especially the hike that we love to practice. He follows us in all our adventures and of course on vacation: we have a caravan and have visited many places in France all three, our next goal is to go abroad. He is comfortable with people and other dogs and we can easily take him to restaurants, in town, at the beach, in public places...
He's much more than a companion, he's part of our family, my parents are crazy about him! We never imagine an activity without him, that's how Mephisto has already done pedal boating, boating, canoeing, paddleboarding (a total failure!), boating, sledding... We have a relationship very accomplice, he is cuddly, playful, and always guesses our emotional state. But he is also a somewhat stubborn complainer! We are also passionate about photography and therefore use our furry accomplice for shootings inspired by nature, fairy tales, fashion…. Always respecting the well-being of Mephisto and keeping a playful spirit in his sessions!
Full of doubts in the beginning of his education, I then decided to create a facebook group for sharing and mutual aid between owners of Czech wolfdogs: this is how I came into contact with Cathy, the owner of Malko, Mephisto's brother. We saw each other and noted with wonder that Mephisto and Malko got along wonderfully, and that, more than that, they communicated together as they did with no other dog! We then organized several meetings and we became very close friends…thanks to our dogs! We see each other regularly and love sharing around our darlings.
Moreover, we recently spent holidays together in the Hautes-Alpes where Cathy and Malko live. They made us discover the cani-racket: a snowshoe hike with a dog. It's a canine pulling sport that Mephisto loves and so do I. You can discover our interview and our advice on EmmeneTonChien.com by the way: Cani-racket: a traction sport for dogs. I hope it will make you want to test this super canine sport that we all really loved.
