Jupiter, Laita and Julie, a lovely adoption story
It's the season for ice cream, bathing suits, flip-flops and cicadas… but also, alas, abandonment. Rather than talking about people who cowardly abandon their animals, I wanted to introduce you to wonderful and generous people who adopt and give a second chance to doggies who have had a bad start in life. Throughout the summer, I offer you several Wouafement Bien portraits to discover beautiful stories of adoption.
Let's start this series with a Norman trio: Laita, Jupiter and Julie. I interviewed them some time ago and here is their lovely story. Like what adoption is a great revenge for our doggies!
Two dogs, two chickens and a cat
Jupiter is an almost 4 year old Australian Shepherd? It is a dog from a Norman breeding that was chosen by my companion as a gift for my 30th birthday in 2014! What a wonderful gift!! This ball of hair of just 2 months (May 2014) arrived when we were living in a small apartment in Paris at the time. Jupiter had his band of friends at Parc Monceau and Bois de Boulogne. Then we finally moved to the countryside in the middle of the forest of Laigue, near Compiègne, in an old forest house and almost 1 hectare of land... paradise for a guardian dog and player!
Laita arrived as part of this new “country” life because we wanted a second dog. We were afraid to take the plunge because of the multiple constraints, the costs and the cleaning generated. My companion spent his life trying to crack me up by showing me ads for dogs to adopt….
We met her naughty gaze at the Compiègne SPA at the end of November 2016 and from the height of her 9 months, she became the new princess of the house; which has since grown with 2 chickens and 1 cat.
The adoption of Laita
I've always wanted adopt a dog and not buy it… My companion had had in his childhood, a Great Dane and I had 2 Samoyeds; all from farms. Great dogs! But very sensitive to animal misery, they seemed normal to us to adopt, we just had to take the plunge.
In the end it was done very simply. I was a volunteer at the Compiègne SPA. We were doing a tour of the kennel and at the bend of an alley, we see this young dog in a very cute basket. We decide to present it immediately to Jupiter: the current immediately passed. So we decided to give him a chance. A new life in progress for her as for us!
The story of Laita, adopted dog
Laita is a mix between pointer, bull terrier, staff… a pretty bastard, endearing and crazy. We fell in love with his face, his messy ears and his powerful physique. In terms of character, she is really crazy. She loves her comfort and snores louder than anyone. She is super greedy and always up for anything.
Removed from her family at 9 months for neglect more than for abuse, she completely changed her life by joining our family. Previously, she had never been out, was malnourished, had no games and was muzzled because she was supposed to be a biter. Finally, when we give love, time, education, comfort, play, a lot of walks and friends… any dog can turn into a super loulou and this is the case! The socialization deficit of her first months is still felt and she is still afraid of running out of food, but she is a great dog. Similarly, negligence during her growth with food and physical development problems means that she already has osteoarthritis and severe joint discomfort...
Laita's New Life
Their lives with us are almost 24 hours a day because I work a lot at home so they are often with me. And then, every day, there is at least one ride. Or we go cycling or running. And at home they scratch mole holes, play, tease chickens, bark at walkers or take a nap! What a good life!
They clearly love being with us whether in Picardy in our forests, during canicross competitions in which we participate from time to time, in the mountains where we go very often or at the sea! They are happy everywhere as long as they have freedom and time with us.
Holidays with your dog
We go on vacation almost all the time with them. Holidays with our dogs are in Brittany, in Noirmoutier, in the south and especially in Valmorel in the Alps. Going to the snow with your dog is great. They have fun sliding in the snow.
Regularly on our journeys, we test the hotel with a pet and also Airbnb and it always went very well even with 2 dogs and 1 cat. We are often told that we are cleaner and more respectful than many families with children. I appreciate giving this image even if sometimes the logistics are complicated because it's a bit of a menagerie...
A holiday anecdote to end? In Brittany, we used to go out with sea kayaks in the port of Doelan, each 1 kayak and 1 dog even if sometimes they jump into the water and we change companions in the kayak... there we were almost at leaving the port and 1 dolphin started playing around us and the sailboats… it was funny to see the dogs curious about this big fish and the amused tourists at the scene!

I am very happy to be able to share Laita's beautiful story with you. I thank Julie for her testimony; I am very happy that she wanted to tell us about her adoption.
Abandonment is a shame so I wanted to highlight those who give these doggies a chance. Thanks to Julie, Jupiter and his companion made room for Laita in their home to shower her with love and give her a good life as a dog. Want to adopt? Meet in one of SPA huts for example; you might meet your next best friend there!
