Water park for dogs: precautions to take

You have understood, I am super happy to introduce you to these dog water parks in Europe! But before you skip the water, you first need to take some precautions.

First practical precaution: your dog must be up to date with his vaccinations and in good health. Dog water parks are places where diseases can be transmitted easily, although they follow strict hygiene measures. For the health of your dog, others and humans in the park, it is better to have your health record up to date. Some dog aquatic centers will ask you to do this.

And then, inevitably, one of the first questions to ask yourself is: Does my dog like water? If you go to a water park for dogs, it is above all to enjoy with your dog. The goal is for him to enjoy it as much as you do! If your dog hates water, there's no need to force it. Not all dogs have to like swimming, and you will find many other activities to share with him!

If, on the other hand, he is afraid of it but remains curious, try going to the water park when there are few people, or in a swimming pool where you will be alone for a time slot. Let him take his time, so that he ends up enjoying going in the water without being forced.

Un safety jacket can help him gain confidence and learn to swim. I use one for Musher and I highly recommend it! We even made a comparison of several life jackets for dogs to help you choose the best life jacket model for your dog 😇

And to get into good habits before taking your dog to the swimming pool, I also recommend this article: The dog in the swimming pool: good or bad idea?

Last advice: some dogs get extremely excited when running in water. They can then lose control of their movements and their jaw. The risk is therefore that they will hurt themselves, or that they will hurt someone without doing it on purpose. If your dog tends to lose his neurons like Musher in his younger years, come at times when there are fewer people, or keep a very close eye to call him back when things start to get out of hand.

Indeed, Musher tended to lose his temper when we went to the beach. She ran at full speed without stopping or looking where she was going. It even happened that she made someone fall! The person was in pain at the time, because a 32 kg labrador coming up to your legs, you can feel it! Fortunately, more fear than harm, she didn't do anything too bad. However, it could have been a child or a dog and the consequences could have been more serious. This is why I am warning you, think about it 😉

Dog water parks in Spain

There is no need to say, Spain is the country in Europe with the best water parks for dogs. The infrastructures are really optimized so that your dog has fun and you have a Too W'ouf moment together. In addition, they have also thought about humans: restaurants and bars are often there! Come on, I won’t tell you any more and I’ll let you discover them 😉

The Canino water park

A 30-minute drive from Barcelona, this dog water park packs a punch! Two “lakes”, “oases”, water jets, sand dunes, vast green spaces… A real paradise for dogs, in which you can swim too! A large lake is designed for dogs comfortable in the water, with a gentle slope and a large deeper area, as well as a platform for jumping. The small lake serves as a paddling pool for small dogs or for those who are discovering the pleasure of swimming, at their own pace. Restaurants and a bar are also on site, for a bite to eat while your dog has fun with his friends. What more ? This water park named Aquapark Canino is open in high season from April.

The Trust Resort Canino dog water park

They didn't do half measures at the water park Canine Trust Resort, 1 hour south of Valencia. A 1000 m dog pool2, water slides, waterfalls, water jets… The pool is 70 m deep at most but your dog will be able to descend at his own pace thanks to the slight slope of the ground. Dogs must be up to date with their vaccinations and in good health to access them. In this water park, there is a bar where you can eat. The center also provides dog boarding, which gives you the opportunity to let your dog have fun in the water with his friends, while you visit places that are forbidden to dogs, for example!

The Gos Aventura dog resort

Still in the Valencian community but this time 1 hour north of Valencia, here is the park Gos Aventura. Originally, this place was a dog boarding house, which then diversified with a grooming salon, a dog school and what interests us: a large dog pool ! This one is open to the public in summer, and reserved for boarding dogs the rest of the year. Human swimming is also authorized but priority is of course for our canine friends. If you're feeling a little peckish, a food truck has something to satisfy you.

Dog water parks in Italy

In Italy, the water parks for dogs that I have chosen to present to you really accompany humans and dogs to have a good time. 2 gems in the boot of Europe to discover!

The Doggy Splash dog water park

The center Doggy Splash, in Turin near the border with France, offers a personalized support to have fun in a swimming pool with your dog. Think of it as a super fun individual lesson: you can swim freely with your dog, but also practice water courses and teach him to dive. An advantage for dogs who are fearful or who don't get along with their peers! In addition to the dog pool, the center also offers canine osteopathy sessions and proprioception classes. Enough to offer a day of 100% well-being to your dog so that he feels good in his paws and in his head!

The Green Dog Club: lake reserved for dogs

So there, I admit that it’s my favorite. Un gigantic lake reserved for dogs, which is also surrounded by nature. Indeed, it is in a protected area! Three quarters of an hour from Milan, this lake maintained by a kennel club allows you to swimming with your dog, but also take canine swimming and lifesaving lessons, go canoeing, cani-paddle… There is also an indoor swimming pool open to dogs in winter. In short, a joy to enjoy the holidays with your dog! To access the lake and activities, you will need to be a member of the club, using a card available upon arrival. On site, there is also a small bar, a dog shower and places to walk around the lake.

With Musher, we followed water rescue course for some years. She was super strong and loved it! I would be curious to know how this discipline is trained in Italy. Since Italy is almost entirely surrounded by sea, there must be a lot of rescue dogs!

A water park for dogs in Belgium

The majority of canine aquatic centers have a therapeutic purpose: rehabilitation, muscle strengthening, proprioception, etc. In Belgium, I have only found one aquatic park for dogs where you can go to simply enjoy a leisure activity with your dog. However, it looks Too W'ouf and offers lots of activities! I present it to you 😀

The Aqua-dog water park

Half an hour from Liège in Belgium, the water park Aqua dog gives you access to a leisure pool for dogs. On the program: introduction to water, water games, canine aquagym, balancing on a floating mat... So many activities that will strengthen your relationship with your dog while keeping him physically and mentally active. This water park for dogs also offers play areas and physiotherapy, osteopathy and sometimes canine massage sessions.

I'll stop there for water parks for dogs, that's already quite a few for you to try! If ever there are others in Europe being built, I will be sure to keep you informed. What about France then? Come read this article, in which I present to you some great aquatic centers for dogs in France 😉 Happy swimming Wouafer's!
